Joyce, Unless there was just one Capt. John Rogers, you might want to give the dates when he lived and where he was from before he was in Tennessee - if you know that. I'm viewing records from back in the 1700's and there were already so many Rogers and many Captains. Out of curiosity, I did a search in Ancestry.com for "Captain" and "Rogers" - and got more returns than what I thought I would. There was a Captain John Rogers mentioned in the New York City Wills, 1777-1783. This Captain John had a son, Gilbert. There were also Captains George, James, William, and Albert mentioned in other NYC wills during that same time. Under Record of Commisions of Officers in the Tennessee Militia there was a Lieutenant John for 1810, and Capt. John for 1812 (is that one yours?). John Rogers was responsible for leading a group from southeast Tennessee to Arkansas and was credited for founding Fort Smith Arkansas. Does anyone have the roster of people on this immigration?
