I did have quite a lot of info on the various JEREMIAHS but had to clean out my files so do not have much now. What I do have is from memory. The first JEREMIAH was a son of THOMAS & SARAH. He was probably born ca. 1680 possibly in Newport. He later lived in Charlestown. His wife was MARY. They had at least: ISAAC, THOMAS, JEREMIAH & BENJAMIN. I think BENJAMIN had a son JEREMIAH too. One JEREMIAH moved to Newport. I did lots of research into records for Westerly,Charlestown,Richmond & Exeter. The first JEREMIAH & MARY his wife moved to EXETER, where they probably died. IN the town records at MARY's death ISAAC was named as her administrator he being the oldest son. These records are on micro-film at the LDS. There are also the Rhode Island Archives at the Seattle,Washington Public Library. JEREMIAH ROGERS md. PATIENCE ( CARR ?). BENJAMIN s/o JEREMIAH md. JEMIMA CASE of East Greenwich, RI.on 15 April 1739 by Justice BENJAMIN SWEET. They had son CALEB b. 6 March 1739/40. CALEB md. PATIENCE SWEET d/o WILLIAM SWEET on 12 Jan.1760. JEREMIAH was born 8 November 1741. Hope this helps. So in a way, yes, I'm trying to compile info of the Newport Rogers (from the 1700's, that is) so that if ever I find Jeremiah's connections I won't have to backtrack on all the research I've already done. Interestingly, I have been able to find some indirect clues to relationships - such as business partners, etc. But unless I find one of them relating to Jeremiah, then all would be for waste, unless something I find helps someone else. But then, do I need a reason to read old newspapers? Why do the paid sites carry them if not to read? According to Vermont records, census, and Jeremiah's Revolutionary War record listed on Heritage Quest, he was born in Newport in 1761. There is a 1790 Newport, RI, census that matches him with two males at the age that his two sons, Thomas and George, would have been before showing up in Vermont records in the 1800's. Unless Jeremiah's parents just moved to Newport just prior to his birth, or he was born there with his parents living elsewhere (or born to an unwed mother), one of the males living in Newport in the mid 1700's might have been his father. Before he died, my father-in-law always said his Rogers' line was originally from England - something passed down through the generations, I guess. About two years ago or so, someone sent me a whole line of connecting Rogers families from Newport that trailed back to a James Rogers arriving in early 1600's. However, much of it went only so far with descendants, missing a generation or two in the early to mid 1700's.
