    1. Re: [ROGERS] Giles Rogers, d. 1794 Albemarle

    3. Thanks Hal for your information. I found a land grant for Giles Rogers -- On 16 April 1670, Giles Rogers was granted 400 acres in New Kent County "on the road Pascataway. Beginning at the upper corner tree of Francis Orines or Oraines, back line. " [Land Office Patents No. 6, p. 300] It was for transporting eight people I can't make out most of those names but two seem to be John Evans and Anthony Morton. ("Transporting" in land grants doesn't always mean the grantee actually paid for the passage, just that he bought or was otherwise assigned the others' 50 acres each headrights. But if Giles Sr. was a ship captain, maybe here it does actually mean he transported them.) Also found this one with John and Peter as bounds adjacent to George Eastham: 22 February 1727. John Martin of King and Queen County - 400 acres King William County On the branches of the Middle River and Whites Run in St. Johns Parish beginning...corner of PETER ROGERS on the south side the Middle River...corner of Pigg and Coleman,,,corner of Martin's lower tract...Anthony Samuels line...corner of GEORGE EASTHAMS in a Valley to Rogers line...to JOHN ROGERS corner [Land Office Patents No. 13, p. 209] ---Joan
