Travis was born in 1804 in VA or NC. Found a document today that says Travis' father, an Irish immigrant, was killed by falling tree and his mother, a Scottish immigrant, remarried a Methodist minister who "treated him badly" so he took his out. By age 17 had moved into the home of Thomas Morrison, and later married his daughter. Another family story is that he and a sister were kidnapped by Indians, Cherokees. It is also rumored that the family is Black Dutch or Melungeon. Travis' sons names were Welcome, Josephus, Thomas, Milton, Henry, Isaac. Again, I don't have the names of either parent. I think it could be possible to track down the mother through the 2nd marriage to the minister, so if you know any of these stories, or have any tips, ideas, or a general direction for me to go to continue my search, I will welcome any information offered to me on this subject.
