There were several differant ROGERS lines in Saratoga County,NY. I never did get them straightened out. I did lots of my research in old land records on micro-film I ordered from the LDS. They often gave good info on people. My late wifewas descended from JEREMIAH ROGERS s/o THOMAS & SARAH (?) who lived in Westerly,Rhode Island in the 1600's. Theywere descendanded from JAMES ROGERS who was born ca. 1590 & settled in Rhode Island in ca. 1610. There is quite a lot of info on this ROGERS in the Rhode Island Archives. I found some good info in the Seattle, Washington Public Library. My wifes line descended from JEREMIAH through his son ISRAEL> ISRAEL> STEPHEN>JOHN > ORLANDO> MARTHA. Margaret .... Clyde .... Now I'm curious to know how "fcoats@sc.rr.com" might have found or been implying a connection of Dorothy's two guys to Newport? Though I'm short on time now for getting back into ROGERS research, I believe I recall seeing the mention of some Rogers descendants in (or around) the Saratoga County, NY, found in "James Rogers of New London, CT., and His Descendants" book by James Swift Rogers. I was told by a genealogist located at the New England Historic Genealogical Society to search there as my Jeremiah Rogers, b. 1761 in Newport, RI, was probably a descendant. However, with all the research I've done, including finding that book and running through it, I highly question that connection as Y-DNA has connected my husband to the Newport James Rogers line that has paper trails from other individuals. I've found no connections in that book other than the mention of a Rogers married to a Rogers, but not enough info to indicate who the female Rogers line was from. This is my husband's Rogers line and his seems to fit into the same line that Clyde describes his wife's line descending from - though I'm missing parents of Jeremiah, born 1761, to solidify where that connection exactly fits in. But Clyde and I have speculated in the past with Jeremiah's oldest son being named Thomas that he probably fits into that same Westerly Rogers family. Is there any male Rogers descendant from Joseph M Rogers, b. 1805, or Thomas H Rogers, b. 1802/1803, that has been Y-DNA tested? If it is so that Joseph M and Thomas H are from the same Newport line that was hinted at by "fcoats@sc.rr.com" e-mail below, then it might prove interesting to see if their people in Saratoga County are connected in some way to the New London Rogers that also lived in that area. Somewhere in my collection of Rogers data is a short newspaper article mentioning where one of my Jeremiah's descendants (or spouses, as I can't remember) went to Albany for a visit. I had wondered at the time who they might be visiting in Albany as so many relatives of my husband's line had remained in the Brandon, VT, area where Jeremiah settled in 1806 with his two sons, Thomas and George M. - but, then, it might have been a spouse's family that this person was visiting. There is evidence of Jeremiah's son, Thomas, being in Lyons, Wayne County, NY, somewhere between 1810 and 1818 or so as his first couple children were born there. Genetically, this same line of Jeremiah's that my husband has paper trails from relates to a couple people who have managed to take their Rogers lines back to the most northwestern part of upstate New York (west of Wayne County), before they migrated onto Michigan, one stopping in Canada for a short time. I've always wondered if Dorothy's line of Joseph M Rogers, b. 1805, and Thomas H Rogers, b. 1802/3, might be somehow related or connected, but right now I have no proof of a connection of the Brandon, Vermont, line of Rogers who trail back to Newport to the Saratoga County (or surrounding area) Rogers. However, there are three Rogers brothers who settled in Wayne County, NY, about 1792 that have been well documented in history books as coming from a Rhode Island town not far from Newport, and I have suspected that line as trailing further back into the Newport, RI, line. I might also add that in this book on New London Rogers it is mentioned that the New London line is probably the one descending from James Rogers who came over on the Increase, at age 20, as exists a copy of "licens to go beyond the seas", dated April 15, 1635. This book indicates that the Increase James Rogers is probably the New London one rather than the James Rogers of Newport who was admitted a freeman in 1640. It also mentions that the New London James probably descends from John Rogers, the Martyr, which was the same one as the Rogerenes. Clyde, I'm curious to know how you found the info about our James Rogers from Newport probably arriving in Rhode Island about 1610. I've sometimes wondered if he came prior to the Mayflower as there are just too many James Rogers that existed in the U.S. in earlier 1600's than what is documented on ship records. I have some records that give that info. I will try & find them and send them along. By the way I have the book on the JAMES ROGERS of New London,Ct. It has an index that is very hard to trace people. About your Thomas s/o JEREMIAH, I have seen info in records from Exeter I beleive that said ISREAL was the eldest son of hos mother MARY w/o JEREMIAH There was another son BENJAMIN who I had thought was the oldest as he had married & had kids before ISRAEL married.
