As I say, I have no idea if any of this relates to your "Will" but at least it's a place to start looking. The following info was kindly supplied to me by other Rogers researchers who helped me so much in my own search; therefore, I gladly pass it on to you. The birth/death years of most of these Williams predate your Will's 1897 birth but, considering that your "Will" was likely named to honor other "Williams" in his Rogers family line, one of them may be his father or grandfather. (I have put pertinent given names/place names in all caps for you.) Also, I have confirmed by census records that my own Rogers/Daniel(s) line (also the other side of that same famiy line with surnames of "Anglin" and "Fis(c)her") were in ERATH, MCCLENNAN, PALO PINTO, MONTAGUE, CORYELL, STEPHENS and LIMESTONE COUNTIES during the time period of approx. 1850-1930: Thomas Aaron Rogers b. 1827 ERATH or COMANCHE COUNTY TX d. 1901 COKE(JEAN'S NOTE: Could the "Coke" in this reference and below really mean "Cooke" County? I have found no "Coke County" in TX in that time period but DO find "Cooke County" which is adjacent to Montague, Grayson and Denton Counties in northeastern TX) COUNTY TX m. 1893 COKE COUNTY TX to Ida Belle Pettit b. 1874 ERATH or COMANCHE COUNTY Tx. Siblings of Aaron: WILLIAM JOSEPH HENRY, Eliza, James, John and Robert. Parents of Ida Belle Pettit: Jackson Pettit d. 1919 OK, m. Mollie ? Parents of Thomas Aaron Rogers: John (J.W.) W. Rogers: Joseph Byrd Rogers b. 1806 TN, d. 1867 m. 1834 in AL to Tabitha Elizabeth Massengale b. abt 1816 Madison Co, AL d. aft 1880. I have sibling names for Joseph Byrd Rogers. Siblings of Joseph Byrd Rogers: Larkin R., Caleb, Ruben S. Sibling of Tabitha: Alfred Medises Massengale. Parents of Joseph Byrd Rogers: Isaac (or Larkin) Rogers b. bet. 1760-1770 Parents of Tabitha Elizabeth Massengale: John Cobb Massengale b. 1792 Washington Co. TN d. aft 1860 m. The following info was posted under the subject line "Silas Rogers ENGLAND/VA/NC/KY" on the Rogers Board and further expands on the older line of "Rogers" as it relates to the "Byrd" family: "Surnames: Taken from old clippings dealing with Kentucky family history, newspaper unknown. These clippings are about 100 years old (1997). Reprinted in Kentucky Explorer, Volume 11, Number 2 - June, 1996. pp. 102-103. Barren County. Rogers Byrd Redd Clark George Johnston Robinson Trotter Rice = England Albemarle-VA NC King_and_Queen-VA" At least you can now go back and look through the census records beginning with the "William Rogers" in the aforementioned TX counties to see if, perhaps, you can trace your "Will" to these people as neighbors or by matching any of their birthdates to your Will's birth time- period.
