She was the only one of her 83 classmates to receive a job during the midst of the Depression and worked as a teacher in several elementary schools. She taught music and band as well, leading her group to a state championship. A lifelong musician, she loved playing cello, and participated in choral groups most of her life. During World War II she taught drafting to aircraft engineers, served military families through the USO and enlisted in the Navy WAVES, serving as an ensign. She was stationed in Lynn, Massachusetts, where she expedited the production of landing craft parts. It was there she met and married (August, 1944) her husband, William Minor Lile Rogers, an electrical engineer for General Electric. She had three children: William Reinhold (1945), Susan Lile (1947) and Ruth Everett (1952). They lived in Massachusetts until 1955 and moved to Erie, Penns! > ylvania, > where Minor died in 1964. They were members of the Church of the Covenant. > The children all attended McDowell High School. > She continued raising her children, > seeing that all received a college education. Then for six years she lived in Cleveland and Maryland where she helped raise her grandson, Matthew Rose, while his parents received their medical training. In 1985 she moved to Newport, Oregon, to live with and help out her son's family. Eloise loved her family deeply and kept in close touch with all her extended family. She would spend hours studying and reorganizing family photos. She was active in her church, Newport First Presbyterian, was an avid gardener and reader, enjoyed watching her grandchildren's ballet, music and dramatic performances, and traveled to China, Europe and Morocco with her brother, Dr. Brooks Ranney. She loved attending the Newport Symphony and continued singing with the church choir until she was 92. She was preceded in death by her husband, Minor; her brother, Richard; > and her sister, Muriel. > She is survived by one brother, Dr. Brooks Ranney (Vi); three children, Bill (Pam) Rogers, Susan (Doug) Rose, and Ruth Van Order; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be held at the Newport Presbyterian Church in February. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Music Fund. > Erie Times-News on January 17, 2011 , > > First Presbyterian Church ." > Church of the Covenant.
