I have not attempted to go back further than this. As far as Jeremiah's wife, I have looked at neighbors, original settlers and even middle names, and have only been able to exclude several women. My files on the family are large, but anyone wishing to have them just needs to send me an email address, and I will send a genealogy report. As I say, I have no idea if any of this relates to your "Will" but at least it's a place to start looking. The following info was kindly supplied to me by other Rogers researchers who helped me so much in my own search; therefore, I gladly pass it on to you. The birth/death years of most of these Williams predate your Will's 1897 birth but, considering that your "Will" was likely named to honor other "Williams" in his Rogers family line, one of them may be his father or grandfather. (I have put pertinent given names/place names in all caps for you.) Also, I have confirmed by census records that my own Rogers/Daniel(s) line (also the other side of that same famiy line with surnames of "Anglin" and "Fis(c)her") were in ERATH, MCCLENNAN, PALO PINTO, MONTAGUE, CORYELL, STEPHENS and LIMESTONE COUNTIES during the time period of approx. 1850-1930: Thomas Aaron Rogers b. 1827 ERATH or COMANCHE COUNTY TX d. 1901 COKE(JEAN'S NOTE: Could the "Coke" in this reference and below really mean "Cooke" County? I have found no "Coke County" in TX in that time period but DO find "Cooke County" which is adjacent to Montague, Grayson and Denton Counties in northeastern TX) COUNTY TX m. 1893 COKE COUNTY TX to Ida Belle Pettit b. 1874 ERATH or COMANCHE COUNTY Tx. The following info was posted under the subject line "Silas Rogers ENGLAND/VA/NC/KY" on the Rogers Board and further expands on the older line of "Rogers" as it relates to the "Byrd" family: "Surnames: Taken from old clippings dealing with Kentucky family history, newspaper unknown. These clippings are about 100 years old (1997). Reprinted in Kentucky Explorer, Volume 11, Number 2 - June, 1996. pp. 102-103. Barren County. Silas Rogers, of Worchestershire, England, emigrated to America early in the early part of the seventeenth century, and settled in King and Queen County. His son John married Mary Byrd. Their issue was: Lucy married Samuel Redd; Annie married John Clark; Mildred married Reuben George; Mary married Larkin Johnston; Rachel married Donald Robinson, and four sons, John, George, Giles, and Byrd. Mr. English states there were eleven children and mentions these nine. Annie Rogers and John Clark married 1749 and had nine (Mr. English says and names ten): Jonathan, August 1, 1750; George Rogers, November 19, 1752; Ann, July 14, 1775; John, September 15, 1757; Richard, July 6, 1760; Edmund, September 25, 1762; Lucy, September 15, 1765; Elizabeth, February 11, 1768;! WILLIAM, August 1, 1770, and Frances, January 20, 1773. Giles, son of John Rogers, died in Albermarle County, Virginia, or across the border in North Carolina. Byrd and George came to Kentucky. Joseph Rogers Underwood, who married Eliza McConn Trotter, the granddaughter of Rev. David Rice, is a descendant of George Rogers. Descendants of Byrd unknown. Rogers Byrd Redd Clark George Johnston Robinson Trotter Rice = England Albemarle-VA NC King_and_Queen-VA" At least you can now go back and look through the census records beginning with the "William Rogers" in the aforementioned TX counties to see if, perhaps, you can trace your "Will" to these people as neighbors or by matching any of their birthdates to your Will's birth time- period. He in turn is the son of Capt. Smith Rogers a Revolutionary soldier and his wife Ruth Gage of of Barnstable, (on Cape Cod) Massachusetts. The names of the children agree with the names I have gathered from the Barnstable Vital records. Captain Smith Rogers was a mariner thus the captian. He served as private in Amican Revolution (according to Soldiers and Sailors of the American Revolution) He and wife Ruth are buried at the congregational church inS. Dennis, Massachusetts. Lots more info available if you want to contact me. According to my records, you have the right dates for the children. I have 6 children listed 2 unknown born around 1825 to 1830. All of this is family hearsay. Elias showed up in Scioto Co, Ohio in 1815 & married Susanna Spangle there in 1818. He was supposedly in the War of 1812 and served under Perry in the Battle of Lake Erie. Does any of this sound familiar?
