    3. I am working on the parents of Doswell Rogers. The documentation will be the proof that the theory established by Chan Edmondson back in the early 1970's in the VA State Archieves is correct. Chan found the entailment of John Adduston and saw where Adduston Rogers married a Catherine DOSWELL. My Doswell Rogers was born in 1736 which would fit the time frame of their children. However, only three children were in the parish records of York Co. VA. The fourth child was located in the Will of her grandmother. We believe that Adduston Rogers and Catherine Doswell are Doswell's parents. In 1792 in Wythe Co. VA an Adenstone Rogers witnesses two deed for my Doswell Rogers. This is the very first instance of circumstancial evidence that an Adduston-Rogers-Doswell connection exists WEST of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This Adenstone is also located in Lee Co. VA where Doswell Rogers moved to. Therefore, the next theory is that this Adenstone is the son of Doswell. I have trac! ed Aden stone until his death in IN. Anyone interested in the John Adduston entailment will find it in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly for 1989. However, Adduston Rogers and Catherine Doswell are only mentioned in the footnotes as their line was NOT considered important to the body of the research. Eleanor Karolyn Hoover wrote: > > Hey, > > I am not a descendant of Doswell Rogers, but always thought the name was > interesting, and wondered where it came from. 1. [ROGERS] Doswell, the name, possible origins.
    2. Karolyn Hoover
    3. Hey, I am not a descendant of Doswell Rogers, but always thought the name was interesting, and wondered where it came from. I thought perhaps a Rogers married a Doswell who gave her son her maiden name as a first name, as we see so often in this family. Now I have found another clue. Yesterday, while searching in the Special Collections, Genealogy, of the Albuquerque public library, I came upon a paper, "A ROGERS GENEALOGY", submitted by one Donald H. Rogers, in 1992. He discusses the Rogers of Bryanston, Dorset, and Dowdeswell. here's a quote: "William Rogers. (b ca 1510?) d Oct 21, 1558, will Aug 14, 1558, m Eleanor Taynton of Co Gloucester before 1538. He purchased Dowdeswell (derived from "David's Well") on April 8, 1558. He paid a fine of a hundred pounds for declining knighthood." His sons included Richard Rogers of Dowdeswell, William Rogers of Dowdeswell, John Rogers of Hazelton, and Robert Rogers of Paynswick, among others. It seems to me that "Dowdeswell" would have been pronounced just like "Doswell," so it seems likely that Doswell Rogers was named for the place, not for a person. Does this make sense to anyone else? Maybe it is already well known, but I have not seen it discused on this or any other list. I did a search for "Rogers of Dowdeswell," and came up with this CD for sale: http://genealogycds.com/sales/Rogers.htm I have not ordered it, but might, because it purportedly contains lots of other Rogers information. Does anyone here have it? Konnie

I have Jacob Rogers, born about 1804 in New York State, probably in Grafton NY. I've been unable to determine who his parents were. Is there any mention of him or any other Rogers' in New York? Thanks for your kind offer. Lisa Murray
