    1. [ROGERS] FRANK ROGERS/b. Portugal/Calif G-Rush/d. Boston, MA
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EkDBAIB/5768 Message Board Post: My PORTUGUESE G-Grandfather (born SAN MIGUEL, AZORES). Married twice; 1st wife died in Calif. - had daughter IRENE; married 2nd wife, MARIANNA NEVES. Worked Nights at SUNSHINE BISCUITS bakery in BOSTON (probably died about 1912 in Boston). Children by 2nd wife: ANNA CHARLOTTE, MARY, BEATRICE VICTORIA, JOSEPH ROGERS (Natick, Mass.) Would like names of Frank's 1st wife and names of their children (i.e. Irene, etc.) and date of his birth and death. Frank was in the California Gold Rush with other Portuguese immigrants, probably because of a pamphlet they saw about the Gold Rush in Portugal. Did Frank come to California on a whaler? After 1st wife died, he came East to Boston, living in the North End on Powers Ct. Any info. appreciated.

    2. mel greer
    3. Joyce, I am answering through the list so anyone can use the info. I said I would send some more confusion on my James Rogers. One piece of info first, his tombstone says Rodgers, his sons are listed as Rogers. Now the possible Cherokee connection. James enlisted in the war of 1812 at Huntsville, AL two or three times and at least twice he was discharged at Fayettville, TN. He was in the Creek Campaign that ended with the battle of Horseshoe Bend as stated in his pension papers applying for land. The Cherokees fought the Creeks with the US Army. The muster roll of Cherokee in the battle of Horseshoe can be found at http://members.aol.com/lredtail/muster.html and includes; Charles Rodgers under Capt John McIntoch James Rodgers under Capt David McNair John Rodgers under Capt John Brown Joseph Rogers under Capt David McNair I have never been able to connect this James as being mine. The officers he lists in his pension papers was none of the above. James was first in the 7th MS Militia (I think probably in a higher number because he was with the Speaks and they are listed in another company. Some Vet organization put up his military tombstone and could have made an error) He was also in the 2nd Regiment Tenn. Mounted Vols. and this Reg fought through Creek territory to Horseshoe. One officer he had most was James Hamilton (Hambleton). I need to see the roster of this Regiment. Mel Greer

    3. Aye, well said Dan.......my favorite story from my Cousin Jean Rogers Webb of Fond Du Lac WI is that as a child, her Father, Wilson Rogers, always told her and a sister when they mis-behaved......"Girl, you're a Rogers, act like it!".....Wilson was a noted Vaudeville Star under the name "Jack Rogers" doing soft shoe dances as well as singing on the tour......He used the name "Jack" although his family name was Wils Rogers.....seems there was another performer at the same time that went by the name Will Rogers, he was from Oklahoma I believe......(tongue in cheek)..... Old Hal Rogers Irving, from sunny Northern California!

Marsha mrmfamily@aol.com I am STILL <G> searching for my gg-grandfather, Emsley Rogers/Rodgers prior to his appearing in Darke Co Ohio. Emsley shows up in Darke Co. in 1835 when he married Nancy Rush/Rust. I have various documents / sources that state he was born in Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Depending on the document, he was born in 1804 or 1810 in one of those four states (although PA has not been totally eliminated, it is not likely). It is likely that his parents were born in Virginia and that his father's name may have been John. Wow! Now there's a big help! I have to laugh! This is obviously my brick wall! Emsley and Nancy are buried in the Ithaca Cemetery in Darke Co. Ohio. Emsley and Nancy had the following children: John Rogers - b/d unknown. Fought in the Civil War and is buried in the Winchester Cemetery in Virginia Mary Rogers CRAWFORD b1839 d1915 Eight children. Buried in Ithaca Cemetery Darke Co. I have logged onto ancestry at the library and the above person knows nothing of this posting. I am researching the names you mentioned in your posting: Joseph Byrd Rogers and Isaac Rogers. How do you think Isaac Rogers is connected to Joseph Byrd Rogers? Some say that Joseph Byrd's parents were John Rogers and Jane Due. Also, the Isaac Rogers that I am tracking may have married either Margaret or Nellie and may be the father of Absolom Rogers who married Mildred McGehee and could be the father of Joseph Rogers who was born in 1788 in SC.(married Nancy Mullings). And I'm also trying to figure out how Hugh Rogers, father of Jane Rogers who married John Cobb Massengale, fits into these Rogers. Just when I think I am starting to get all these Rogers figured out, I find a new twist. Would sincerely appreciate your help in untangling all this! Please e-mail me--I don't have the opportuntity to check replies to my postings very frequently. Linda Rogers Grinnell fultimers@yahoo.com

    3. Dear Frances: This may mean nothing at all, but I have an ancestor named William Rodgers who was chr.1712 in Carnmoney, Ire. who at some point along the time frame of 1775-1790 promoted settlements in PEI. He married 2 women but could have married more there. Who knows if my ancestor from Ireland could be someone else's PEI ancestor? Just a thought? have no proof at this time of this concept.
