He died on August 9, 1790 and his will was probated. We know a great deal about some of John's children and almost nothing about the others. 1. William Rogers: For a long time, we believed that John's son, William, may have been the William who lived nearby in Union County, SC and the one who married Isabella Ledford. For various reasons, we are starting to rethink this and are searching for information about other William Rogers with a father named John Rogers. 2. James Rogers married Mary "Polly" Mobley. We have not yet found any children for this couple. 3. Joseph Rogers was born September 17, 1750 (according to his Revolutionary War pension request) and was married while living in SC to a woman named Mary. He moved from SC about 1787-1790 to Fayette Co., KY. He then moved to Oglethorpe Co., GA, Rutherford Co., TN, and finally Bedford County, TN. Known children are: John, James Alfred, and David. Probable children are Mary, William and Joseph. His other children have not yet been identified. 4. Henry Rogers married Elizabeth Mobley. His known children were Reuben, Henry, Jr, and Simeon He possibly had children of Jared and Levi. 5. Thomas Rogers. He is not found in the Fairfield District 1790 census. He more than likely had already moved away from Fairfield before his father's death in 1790. We don't have a wife's name or childrens' names for him. 6. Richard Rogers. He is not found in the Fairfield District 1790 census He more found in the Fairfield District 1790 census. He more than likely had already moved away from Fairfield before his father's death in 1790. We don't have a wife's name or childrens' names for him. 7. Frances Rogers married William Mobley. She was born October 29, 1756. Her known children are: Ledford, Moses, Notley, Payton, Ailsy, and Allie. 8. Mary (possibly a middle name of Jane). May have been a spinster. John Rogers’ will: In State of south Carolina and Fairfield County in the name of God amen, I John of SC being sure of the abundant mercy and goodness of God though weak of body, yet of a sound and perfect understanding memories do make and constitute this my last will and testaments and desire it to be received by all of such: imprimis I moste humbly bequeath my Soul to God my maker beseeching his most gracious acceptance of it through the all sufficient merits and mediation of my most compassionate Redeemer, Jesus Christ, who Gave himself to be an atonement for My sins and is able to save to the uttermost, all that Come unto God by him seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them, and who I trust will not reject me, a returning, penitent sinner, when I render up my Soul with Comfort, humbly beseeching the most holy most wise and all sufficient God to prepare me for the time of my dissolution, and then to take me to himself into that peace and rest, and incomparable felicity, which he has prepared for those that love him, fear his holy name,Amen, blessed be God ---- item I give my Body to the Earth, from whence it was taken in full assurance of its resurrection from thence at the last Day; as for my burial, I desire of my dear wife my executors hereafter named whoI doubt not will manage it with all requisite prudence as to my word by estate I wille and positively order that all my lawful debts be paid and as for my land I desire it to be sold and all my other property at the discretion of my executors to be equally divided between my children; My son William, James, Joseph, Henry, Thomas, Richard, Frances, and Mary. The website is below. http://www.archives.gov/research/arc/native-americans-guion-miller.html These were filed in early 1900s (the ones for my family in 1906) so I don't know if Laura was an Epps or Rogers then. I don't know where you live but some libraries around the country have these applications and if not you can get from National Archives (instructions on the site). These applications require the individual to name his/her siblings, parents, parent's siblings (of the Native American parent) and grandparents. They're wonderful resources. Her card number is 3318 and the roll number is 28720. She is listed with John Poorbear and Mary Poorbear.
