WILLIAM TURNER ROGERS (b.1895-d.1961) married MYRTLE SULLIVENT (b. 1895-d.1972), they had son EDWARD LEE ROGERS (b.1924-d.1983) who married WILMA JEAN LONSBURY (b.1929-d.2002). I'm not sure who William Turner's parents are, but I've been led to think that his father is WILLIAM J (b. 1864) and mother is MARY E. (b.1874). Does anyone know ANYTHING on these people? 3. Thanks for the information. I can't find any relationship to your Rogers. Researching the Rogers' families is made difficult because so many families have given their children the same names. Elsie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Shurtleff" <[email protected]> To: "Rogers.message.board" <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, June 30, 2007 9:39 AM Subject: [ROGERS] Jane Rogers m. Luke McGuire & Nicholas Rogers m. NicholasMcGuire Hi Elsie - I too have long been working on a William Rogers, a Thomas Rogers, and a John Rogers. Here is one family that has them all - and a long will + many land deeds. John Rogers, Sr., was born about 1779 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of John Rogers. In about 1794 he married Elizabeth Hill, the daughter of Thomas Hill. We know nothing about her date or place of birth. John lived in Brooke Co., Virginia, from 1797 to 1827 at least, then he moved to Richland Co., Ohio. He died in about 1834 (probably in Ohio) and was survived by his wife. On 29 June 1834 John Rogers left a will, over which there was documented litigation in Richland Co., Ohio. John and Elizabeth Rogers had 15 children: 1. Mary Rogers, born 8 May 1795, place unknown. Married Michael Tiernan on 29 July 1811. She died on 24 March 1820 in Brooke Co., Virginia, and was buried in Pfister's Cemetery, Brooke Co. 2. William Rogers. 3. Michael Rogers. 4. George Rogers ("The merchant"). Born about 1801 in Virginia. Died 11 Dec. 1836 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. He left a detailed will on 8 Nov. 1836 in Orleans Parish, Louisiana - showing that he owned considerable land and property. 5. Thomas H. Rogers. Born in about 1802 in Virginia. His first two marriages are to women whose names we do not know. He married (3) Polly Boynton (daughter of Asa Boynton and Mary Edmunds) on 1 Jan. 1822 in Ohio. He married (4) Rachel Clay on 18 Oct. 1836 in Richland, Ohio. As far as we know he had no children by any of these wives. Thomas owned the steam boat Philadelphia which plied the Ohio River. He died 11 June 1870. 6. Jane Rogers. Born about 1803 in Virginia. She married Luke McGuire (date and place unknown). The son of James McGuire and Ruth Brown, he was born in 1796 in Brooke Co., Virginia (now in West Virginia). They had six children, all born in Brooke Co., from 1828 to 1845: In order of birth: Elizabeth, John R., Ruth, Mary, William D., and Caroline. He died in 1860 or 1861 in Brooke Co., Virginia. She died after 1879, perhaps in Lawrence, Kentucky. 7. Elizabeth "Eliza" Rogers. Born 1804 in Virginia. She married Nicholas B. McGuire before 1830 (place unknown). The brother of Luke McGuire (see above), Nicholas was born in 1798 in Brooke Co., Virginia. Elizabeth and Nicholas had eight children as follows: Ruth Ann, born 1829 in Carlisle, Montgomery Co., Ohio. John, born about 1832 in Ohio. Mary J., born 1834 in Carroll Co., Ohio. James, born 1837 in Ohio. Elizabeth, born 1839 in Kentucky. Catherine R. "Kate," born 1842 in Lawrence Co., Kentucky. Married Milton Freese. Luke, born about 1844 in Lawrence Co., Kentucky. George, born about 1847 in Lawrence Co. Kentucky. Nicholas died after 1879, perhaps in Lawrence Co., Kentucky. Elizabeth died in April 1896 in Sandy Township, Lawrence Co., Kentucky. 8. Patrick Rogers. Born 6 April 1808 in Brooke Co., Virginia. Died in Brooke Co., Virginia. 9. John Rogers, Jr. Born about 1811 in Virginia. 10. Eliza Jane Rogers. Married (perhaps) Tillier Tillyer Tinnis before June 1836. 11. Margaret Rogers. Married (perhaps) Tillier Tillyer Tinnis before June 1836. 12. Harriet Rogers. 13. Catherine Rogers. 2. Ray, I read your message about the DNA program with great interest and I have a question about it. I do not have any direct male relatives from my Rogers lines that are living. My mom had one brother who died at a very early age and both my mom and her father are deceased. My mom's last request was to be cremated. Like many other elderly people in this area she died after Katrina and burials were totally chaotic hence the cremation. My elusive John(who I flood the list with information or lack of it) is the 7th ggf of my only grandson. I do have one male cousin still living-his mother and my mom's father were sister and brother. Do you know any programs where I could inquire about DNA testing? Joyce Phillips ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Here is census info on my John Rogers/Rodgers who came to TN from Fauquier Co., VA about 1826. I have info on all of these listed except William and James. I don't know if James is a son of John or not, and I have no idea who this William is who was born in SC. The name was spelled Rogers until they got to TN; thereafter it was spelled Rodgers. My direct ancestor, Ranzil Hunton Rogers/Rodgers was born in Fauquier in 1821 and was already gone from the home at the time of this census. 1850 Smith Co. TN census, South Division, household 976, pg. 374B/375A, 14 Nov 1850: Rodgers, John, age 68 (60), wagon maker, b. VA Lucinda, age 46 (54), b. VA Lucyan, age 30, b. TN (VA) John, age 27, wagon maker, b. VA Francis, age 20, b. TN (Frances) Thomas, age 15, laborer, b. TN Levi, age 13, b. TN William, age 20, laborer, b. SC (unknown who this is) James, age 23, laborer, b. TN (is this a son of John or not?) 2 at school, 4 read/write Any info which might pertain to William and/or James would be appreciated. Sandra
