I have a great grand mother who came over from Ireland or England during the Potato famin in the 1800s. I was told they wey werre not allowed to leave Ireland, but they could as English. So they had to go to England and take on English names. And My Mom before her death thought that it was Omalley. Gosh I am so totally out of my league here. Any help would appreciate. Daniel, I would be interested in knowing whom your David married and when and where they got married, if you know. Also, if you know his wife's in-laws names, well of coarse, he'd know something, but how much you have about them. I am not being nosy, but might have some ideas. Of coarse, I am flying by the seat of my pants, as they say, here because I know nothing of your Rogers, plus I don't know how much you have and how long you've been searching data on them. By the by; have you had any access to County Court Minutes of the area? I realize that going over them isn't very exciting but oft times you can come upon something of interest. I found the name of someone I needed in the danged item I found in some old VA court minutes. I was getting pretty bored; it was sort of like counting door knobs; just going over these old items about paying road crews, who was put on juries, etc, and then POW, an item came up and I got back one generation, just by a fluke. Can't say I've had any more luck like that lately and I have been trying for 50 years to take our McCoys back and haven't been able to, so I know the frustration. Just offering an idea. Seriously though, if you wouldn't mind, I would like to know your David's wife and his children and so on, if its no problem. Have a good one. Hi Daniel, How very nice of you to introduce yourself. I am telling you; I fell in love with Highlands; no wonder my grandfather loved it so. Did you happen to read the post I put out about being there this past August and being able to put a Daughters of 1812 marker on our David's cabin? David and Martha "Patsy" Young Rogers built that old cabin in 1820; they built the barn 1st and lived there until the cabin was finished. It was such an honor to be able to lead the ceremony marking his cabin. He is the only ancestor I have proven in the War of 1812 and probably always will be. If I can be of any help in working out how you track back on your East Coast Rogers let me know, I will try. You can't imagine how many people have written me and said how nice it is that I descend from Thomas Rogers who came to the Colonies on The Mayflower and they don't know why I haven't joined the society. Well, that Thomas Rogers wasn't my ancestor and if we connect with him it's a long way back in the old country. I get untold numbers from people asking about our connection with East Coast Rogers and I have to tell them, sorry, that's not us. Hope we can keep in touch and if I learn of anything I will pass it on. Has Ancestry.com been of any help at all? What all do you have in Ohio data so far? I suppose you have gone through the Land and Probate Records that are available. I see that Jefferson County was formed in 1797, so barring fires and all of those dreadful things. I see the Probate Judge's office has the marriage, probate and naturalization records. Have you had any luck searching those instruments? If you have been fortunate enough to find naturalization records then you may be able to find where they came in to the Colonies from and what ship they came on, etc. Since you have an idea your David's parents came in from New Jersey, the naturalization records might be extant from there. This 1850 census is the only definitive reference I know of to her. Cyinda is thought to be Sarah's daughter by Elphonso Morrell, (1801-1879) of Schuyler Co. IL. Another of Sarah's daughters, Anna May Rogers Barnard, born 05/30/1859, Schuyler Co., IL, is my ggrandmother. Anna May's marriage certificate dated 1874, Eau Claire Co., WI, lists her parents as "Alexander Rogers" and "Sarah Rogers." Besides David, there were supposedly two other sons, Joseph and Stephen (dates unknown and father unknown). He was born in about 1910 in Baltimore, Maryland, married Frances O'Donnell on 11 Aug 1840 in New Orleans, and died in San Francisco, California on 19 Feb 1862. He was a ship's captain. Unfortunately I have been unable to find his exact date of death or the names of his parents. I would be willing to offer a prize for either of these. Please tell me more about your William Rogers. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Friday, October 26, 2007 12:02 AM To: [email protected] Subject: ROGERS Digest, Vol 2, Issue 200 Today's Topics: 1. I am just checking on members. Also posting my new address. Dan M [email protected]
I would hope for better times. How ever watching the news and seeing all the destruction all over the US and world. I offer my Prayer to all my list memebrs and possible cousins. I am hoping none of our members are in these dangers seeing the CA fires and flooding of New Oreleens and problems on the east coast. I have recenty moved to the Oregon desert. Not much where I am to burn, but we could freeze tho <sigh> Maybe in the next year some of those brick walls will show some tumbling and some one will find enough clues to knock em all down. Maybe a little conversation on the list will help. Folks who post their lines or talk about family lore in the past have found clues and also cousins. Some times listing your family lines are a bigger help than just sitting waiting for the other person to post it, every one is waiting for the other. So go ahead, post them, chat about family , what did great grandma do and great great grand father ? Sunny this fri morning on the Oregon desert, 25 degrees makes the coffee wonderful. Looking fwd to seeing a million posts <G> Here is my old site, I bought a domain and am re writing the whole thing over , you will find a few surnames and a few errors I hope to fix in the re write. At least take a look, you might be able to help me out with some add ons or errors. Watch out for the pop ups, one reason I am putting things on my own domain, I hate pop ups. Here is a re write of my Rogers http://www.d-matney.com/Henry-Rogers.html any one want to add links to my Rogers page to thiers ? and the home page of my Matney http://www.d-matney.com I will make a newer index later, for now I will just have the seperate pages. I downloaded my last website before I moved so I can make corrections with out re doing the whole thing. http://www.angelfire.com/or/matney/ Dan M

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: mckeesearcher Surnames: Rogers, Works Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.rogers/10127/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I just stumbled on a post here placing possible Native American Rogers in Allegany Co. NY. I'm looking for a male Rogers who married or had a child (my dad) with Violet L. Clark, b. 1932 Cuba, Allegany, NY. I've been told he has Native blood, but no one left living in my family to ask about this. The son (my dad) was named Doug Rogers and he and his mom ended up in Steuben Co., NY. Was told my Rogers died when Doug was quite young, so I'm thinking d. abt. 1957-1963 ish. Ring any bells out there? Does anyone have any Rogers connections with the Native Am. of the area? I've done a small bit of Seneca research, as this was their area and they have res's in Allegany and Cattaraugus Co.'s. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
