Rogers. They are listed in the 1860 Census of Franklin Co., Ala. Allen P. was born about 1804 in NC. He (1860 Cenus) is with wife, Elizabeth, married within the year and children: Margaret, age 17; Melonta 15; William D. 12; Lucinda 10; John C. 8; Cleopatra 6; Sarah J. 4; Modenina 2; and Manda B. 1. I know that the family came to North Mississippi after the Civil War. My great-grandmother was Cleopatra. She married my great-grandfather, Sam W. Jackson in 1869 in Lee Co. She went by Tine and her tombstone has Tine Rogers Jackson wife of S. W. Jackson, born Feb. 3, 1854 died April 11 11, 1929. I know very little on the Rogers/Rodgers family. I found William D. in Union Co. in 1880 with name Rodgers. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Just wondering if one of the sons could have been Jefferson C. Rogers, born in 1820 somewhere in Tennessee. In 1850 he was in Pikesville, Bledsoe Co., TN, with his wife, Nancy Adaline Carder Rogers, and their three sons, James M., 2 1/2, and their 2-month-old twins, David F. and Ephraim Hicks Rogers. E. H. "Red" Rogers later was a North Texas Church of Christ circuit rider. He was my grandfather, though he died in 1922 before I was born. Despite 25 years of searching I have not been able to determine just who Jefferson C. Roger' parents were. Any help greatly appreciated. Author: jamerm Surnames: Rogers, Christies, Herrons, McIntoshes Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.rogers/10212.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Greetings James: When you get your next haircut, will you ask the barber if he has any other information about his direct-line ancestor who he told you was William Rogers with some connection to Tennessee. I have five William Rogers in my data base and one Sterling Rogers. Sterling was born in Tennessee in 1828. He had a bother named Dillard W. Rogers who was born in Powell Valley,Tennessee, on April 13,1825. Dillard married a Charlotte Christy who was the sister of one of my direct-line ancestors who was Elizabeth Christy. Dillard and Charlotte had a son born in 1855 who was named William Rogers, but his birthplace was Indiana and not Tennessee. Both Sterling and Dillard were sons of Isaac Rogers born in 1797 in Tennessee and his wife Nancy Hetherley born in 1796 in Tennessee. This couple had nine children the first five being born in Tennessee and the last four in Indiana. One of the children born in Indiana in 1838 was named William. Isaac's father was John Rogers. There is another interesting aspect about the close relationship between the Rogers, the Christies, the Herrons (formerly the Herrings), and my McIntosh line. One of Isaac's daughters was named Jane S. Rogers, born in Tennessee on September 26,1829. Jane married a Reuben Herring (Herron) on 17 September 1848 in Rock Creek, Bartholomew, Indiana. Reuben's father died in 1830 in Bartholomew County and his mother Elizabeth Christy Herring married another one of my direct-line ancestors George Washington McIntosh in 1833 in Rock Creek. It's a small, small world isn't it. One last story about the Rogers. A Stephen Rogers born in 1811 in Indiana married another of Elizabeth Christy Herron's sisters named Lucinda Christy born in 1812 in the Missouri Territory. Their fourth child was a son named William G. Rogers born sometime in the year 1840. This child is almost as important to me as one of my own. Please tell your barber that if he is a direct-line descendant of this William G. Rogers and if he can prove the exact date of William's birth, that I will see to it that the barber will get ten new customers in the next three months, even if I have to bring them all with me from Utah! :-) If you give a copy of this message to your barber and to your other friends who may have an interest in the Rogers, Christies, Herrons, and McIntoshes, perhaps they will be able to determine if any of the Rogers mentioned in this post are the family they are looking for! James, You don't happen to have a Joel Rogers in your bunch do you? The reason I'm asking is that my Joel Rogers was born in NC abt. 1797-98. He married Sarah Norred in 1823 in Bibb Co., AL. He had two sons Marshall and William while in AL. Moved to TN (Weakley Co. we believe) and had two more sons James and George. Then moved to Leake Co., MS and had a daughter Laura. We believe his parents either came from NC or VA, but have not been able to find out who they were. There was also an S. T. Rogers who lived in the household of a John Boon who was a neighbor of Joel's in Leake Co., MS and I believe he knew John Boon in TN. S. T. Rogers was near the same age of Joel's oldest sons Marshall (born 1825) and William (born in 1826). It looks like S. T. was born in 1827 in AL. Joel's sons James (born 1828) and George (born 1830) were born in TN and in the 1830 census in Weakley Co., TN it looks like there are 3 sons, 1 father and 1 mother. The three sons look like they were all born within the 1825-1827 timeframe. When you mentioned those states in your posting, I just had to ask. Any information would be greatly appreciated. In the 1840 census in Lawrence co. Al my GG-grand father whose name was Armstead Rogers was put down as Amstd Rogers so I have to go and search for myself then I know for a fact. There was so many people that could not write or spell very good then so they wrote the way it sounded to them. I know it sounds like a lot of work but I sure enjoy it so here I go. Do you have anything concrete on any of them if so try to take a short trip and look for your self. I have been to Va,Al, Ms and a lot of Tn also a small part of N.C. If you can give me the oldest name and location you have I may be able to help alittle I do not consider my self a pro so I am real slow on most. I like to talk about research a lot the other day I stopped to get a hair cut in Al. it turned out the barber was a decendant of William Rogers out of Tn and as far as I can tell that family is kin to me (very distant) so I am going back down next week and talk some more! All this means is that you can never tell where you may find more information on your family Any way I hope this helps you to dig a little longer and a little harder. I sure like researchers By now James Rogers [email protected] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
