    1. [RODGERS] [ROGERS] RE: Doswell Rogers b. 1736
    2. Tony
    3. A few corrections, clarifications here, if I may.... First, there is no proof when old Doswell was born, no written record of any kind. He did give a deposition in early 1812 Lee Co. but no age was listed. He did die soon thereafter, (in Lee Co.) so IF he was born 1736 he would have died at age 76. We can be fairly sure that by 1762 he was at least age 20, and married as his proven son William was born 1763, (presumed to be the first born) So if age 20 is used then his date of birth could be as early as 1736 or as late as 1742. Keep in mind he appears in 1767 Pittsy Co. as a tithable, therefore, must be age 21, at least. 2. His assumed/presumed brother Thomas of Hawkins also has no known written date of birth, his age is unknown. Thomas, the son of old Doswell was born about 1765 according to his 1812 Lee deposition, while Doswell Jr. was born about 1768. Cousin Doswell, (son of Thomas & Jane of Hawkins) was born 1770 according to age listed in the 1850 census. 3. Doswell does make his mark on documents as "R" for Rogers, not as a middle initial. 4. Rev. Herd diary does NOT give the year of 1740 as when Doswell came from Ireland, at least not in the copies I have seen; someone may have added that date recently. The story that they came from Ireland is a family lore and may contain some truth, but who came and when, is unknown. I have been working on Doswell Rogers b. 1736 for many years. There is > still a lot of confusion going on as some of the information has been > changed for reasons unknown. The real problem is because we have Doswell traveling with his son Thomas. > At the same time Thomas whom I believe was born ca 1740 and is a brother to Doswell (NOT PROVEN) is traveling around with his son Dauswell. These men are together on numerous documents and are written as follows: Doswell r.( He would be the one born 1736.) Doswell JR,( He should be a nephew.), Thomas SR(He would be b. ca 1740 and a brother to Doswell SR.) and Thomas > JR. (He would be the son of Doswell SR.) This is where everyone goes off > the deep end, but it seems very logical. > > > > Later Thomas Sr. and his son, Dauswell Jr. move to NC which we know was > really TN.
