Hi! Again! I thought it would be better to do this in small doses. Hurd Rogers was b. in 1851. We know that old Doswell died some time after 1812 because that is when he gave his diposition in Lee Co. VA. Let' s say that Old Doswll died in 1820. Hurd is born 30 years later. Just exactly who told him the physical description of his great-grandfather? First of all Hurd's grandfather left Lee Co. before Doswell died. Hurd's father did not remain in White Co. with William his father. Hurd apparently didn't live near his father because he had moved to Cedar Grove in GA. Hurd was a circuit rider who admits he never met his cousins in Lee and Scott Co. until very late in his life. If you will check out Thomas serving from Scott Co. you will note that it was only for 3 months and he wasn't 103. Check out the will Thomas left in Scott Co. Yes, many of the things that Hurd said are true. But, not the whole thing. We have too many documents that prove otherwise. Doswell didn't serve in the Rev under George Washington. Soldiers on the Continental line were given land grants in KY in 1832. There is none for Doswell. He did sign the Oath and you can get in the DAR on that. As a patriot only and not a soldier. I have always wanted to find proof that Doswell went to King's Mtn. He lived in the right place and at the right time. Except for the local militia I have never found him serving in any major battle. Even his horse went to the battle in Lord Dunmore's War. Doswell stayed home.
