I also have been searching for my great grandparents Jesse/Jessie R. Rogers and Elizabeth McKuhen. I have a copy of my ggrandparents married cert.: printed name says: J. R. Rodgers (including strikeout) to Lizzie McKuhen on Dec 15, 1901 in Montgomery Co., GA. His signature also includes the "d" smudged. I'm checking out all possibilities of spelling. Their children spelled their last name as "Rogers" From one siblings' death cert. the parents name are spelled Jessie Rogers and Lizzie McKuhen and the other says Jesse Rogers and Elizabeth McKuine. I have 3 siblings' SSI application just as conflicting. The date of birth for Jesse is missing but says Toombs Co., GA and Elizabeth is also missing but says McRae on 2 and Tifton on 1. Without being able to do some footwork from where I live in CA., I know they resided and farmed in Lyons, GA raising 9 children from 1903 until 1919. Their children and their families are in the Tattnall, Toombs and surrounding areas: 1. Willie Rogers, Jul 04, 1903-Mar 24, 1997, m. Louise Jones. Mary Elizabeth, Will, and L. C. 2. Latson Columbus Rogers, May 09, 1906-Apr 1971, m. Marietta McCrae. Jimmy Ernest, Johnny, Edward, Ceceila and 1 more daughter. Latson died in a Vet. hospital in Walla Walla, WA and is buried in ID with his wife and her family. 3. Johnnie Rogers, Aug 03, 1910-Feb 1985 Marie, and Hubert/Herbert 4. Sallie Mae Rogers, Apr 17, 1911-Apr 12, 1997, m. John D. Hunt, Jr. Annie Lou, Eileen, Eddie Theron, Emma Lee, Martha Jo, Linda Faye, Bonny Ruth. 5. Woodrow Rogers, Nov 06, 1917-May 26, 1950. Buried Mt. Shady Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, GA. 6. Peggy Rogers, never married. Lajaun 7. Jannie Rogers, m. ??? Shuman. 2nd m. ??? Tootle. Inez and 2 other daughters 8. Robert Rogers m. Elizabeth ??? Robert, Jr., and Virginia 9. Lewis Reubin Rogers m. Evelyn. I recently found out Evelyn wrote a Vidalia onion cookbook. After the children grew up starting their own families Jesse and Elizabeth moved to Vidalia. I haven't been able to obtain a death cert. because I haven't specific dates and location of death. Jessie died approx. 1932 and is buried in Reidsville off of the Elza district road behind the Cedar Grove Church. I don't know how to go about obtaining information on his burial. He's not listed on the archives under rootsweb. Elizabeth died approx. 1965. I look forward to each day to reading and saving my emails for more clues to the puzzle. Jesse had a brother named Bill Rogers. He was married to Alice Yeomans born Mar 06, 1881 and died Sept 15, 1967 in Tattnall Co. Her SSI from Savannah, says her father's name was Redden J. Yeomans and her mother's name was Margaret Anderson. They had quite a few children but the only one I have proof of in writing is Pinkney Rogers. I was told they divorced and he moved on. What's frustrating is not recognizing the past until I put together what I have so far.
