John Rogers (1749-1823), although there is no solid proof of this, and tracking the right John Rogers has proven to be a formidable task. We also have no solid proof on the identity of their mother. Recently, one of our distant relatives, Sandy Reeves Hermosillo, provided me with a document I never knew existed, which could help in our search. It is the Declaration of Thomas Taylor, dated August 26, 1896, filed in support of Jesse Brown's application for Cherokee membership. The declaration states: "... That he was well acquainted with Jessie Rogers back in the old Nation, who was a citizen of the Cherokee Nation by blood and who was so recognized by the authorities thereof-and whose name ought to appear on the census rolls of 1817. He resided at Coosa Town Tennessee, that said Jessie Rogers had a sister named Millie Rogers who married a man named Leroy Payton". I descend from the Millie and Leroy union. Does anyone have access to the records to check this information. I know the name Jesse Rogers appears on the census records for Bedford Co. ,Tenn of 1820 on those of Bledsoe Co., Tenn of 1815. Maybe this information will give some smart relative a new idea!
