    1. [RODGERS] [ROGERS] Doswell Rogers b. 1736

    3. Hi! I have been working on Doswell Rogers b. 1736 for many years. There is still a lot of confusion going on as some of the information has been changed for reasons unknown. The real problem is because we have Doswell traveling with his son Thomas. At the same time Thomas whom I believe was born ca 1740 and is a brother to Doswell (NOT PROVEN) is traveling around with his son Dauswell. These men are together on numeous documents and are written as follows: Doswell Sr.( He would be the one born 1736.) Doswell JR,( He should be a nephew.), Thomas SR(He would be b. ca 1740 and a brother to Doswell SR.) and Thomas JR. (He would be the son of Doswell SR.) This is where everyone goes off the deep end, but it seems very logical. Later Thomas Sr. and his son, Dauswell Jr. move to NC which we know was really TN. These guys are the ones in Hawkins Co. TN mentioned on the WiLL. Doswell SR. and his son Thomas JR finally end up in Lee Co. But all four of them are listed on the petition for the creation of Lee from Russell. As for Ireland. There are no records. Back in 1970 when I visited with Rogers descendants they told me that Rogersville was named for Doswell Rogers of Ireland. They had never bothered to check this out. They just kept repeating the story. If you will do a research of the founding of Rogersville you will see that Joseph Rogers of Ireland was the founder. This is where I think the story of Doswell coming from Ireland began. Personally I still don't believe it. Hurd says that Doswell came in 1740, yet how can he if he was only b. in 1736. A married 4 year old doesn't make much sense. Eleanor ==== ROGERS Mailing List ==== Unsubscribe? Send the message UNSUBSCRIBE to: [email protected] or ....
