My dad had aunts/uncles named Mabel & Earl, Sylvia (Pibil) & Francis that I know of, unsure of which side. Many Rodgers in Byers Cemetery that I do not know how related to - John Rodgers (Loretta Mae), Leo Rodgers (Naomi) & infant son , Lewis Rodgers (Mary Walburn)-may be great-great grandparents, Gladyse G. 3. Thank you for your response Nick, and no it wasn't confusing. Did the elder James, the one who married Margaret, did they have a son named John? Or do you know who their kids were other than James? Thanks for replying, I appreciate it! Janet ----- Original Message ----- From: Nick M. The James born before 1745 was married to a Margaret in Augusta Co, VA on May 21, 1766. They later migrated and ended up in Greene County, Tennessee. 3. Chocy; Here is a run down of the children: James Monroe or Miller (haven't decided yet) RODGERS b. 3 Dec 1809 - NC Eleanor RODGERS b. abt 1814 - NC John M. RODGERS b. 18 Apr 1816 - NC Hugh Simpson RODGERS b. 11 Jun 1817 - NC Ann RODGERS b. 27 May 1818 - NC Elizabeth Jane RODGERS b. 4 May 1820 - NC Martha L. RODGERS b. abt 1823 - NC Nancy M. RODGERS b. abt 1827 - NC I have no idea "where" in NC they came from. Some speculation has been Mecklenberg or Orange counties. Others have said definitely Greene county . . . I don't know. My James Simpson RODGERS was b. abt 1779 in NC and died 5 May 1867 in Marshall county, MS. Unfortunately, he did not leave a Will. You mentioned that James was a common name. I have found that Hugh as well as John are very common names. Of course, lets not leave the women out. Elizabeth ranks high as well as Ann and Martha. Thanks for asking . . . someday I may lose a "brick" or two out of my wall . . . 3. Nick may I ask what you have on your James Rodgers of Augusta Co., his wife and children, etc. I have a John Rodgers born abt. 1750, not sure yet of his parents, and he had a son named James, who had at least one wife named Rachel, he may have been married more than that, I don't know, but he had son Cyrus, and Rachel was named as his mother on Cyrus' marriage license. Would love to hear from anyone connected with this line. Especially anyone who knows who John was married to, and his parents and siblings. John died in 1798 Greenbrier Co., Va. and left a will, he is not the John Rodgers who married Ann McSwain Clendenin though, but they may have been cousins, but if someone who knows who the parents were of that John Rodgers I would be interested to know that too. 3. Janet; I have a James Simpson RODGERS who was born abt. 1779 somewhere in North Carolina. I do not know what his wife's name was, however . . . on some scrap of paper somewhere, I have the name of Mary. Rachel is not a name within the childrens' names, but then again, neither is Mary. There were 8 children in this family of James and ?? The children's step-mother was Elizabeth J. and she was rumored to be Chickasaw or of Shawnee descent. She was born abt 1781 in North Carolina as well. I do not believe her to be the mother of these children because Census records show the children as being white and not mulatto. James died in Marshall county Mississippi and is buried in Bethlehem Cemetery, Fayette county, Tennessee.
