    1. Dr. John Fleming Rodgers; Ky: 1827--1902.
    2. David Middleton Edelen II
    3. Hello, I am at a road block with my great grandfather, Dr. John Fleming Rodgers. According to his obit he was born in Bourbon Co., Ky around 1827, but I have been told by someone that he was born in Franklin Co.. His first wife I think was a Margaret E. Pattie, his second, my great grandmother, Sarah Isbel Williams, known as "Belle" and by the family as "Ma Belle". Dr. Rodgers lived the last 28 yrs of his life and died 1902 in Clifton, Woodford Co., Ky and is buried in Versailles Cemetery. There are also some Rodgers cousins my grandfather used to write to in Midway, Ky (same county). He had some kids by his first marriage but I am descended from his 2nd set of kids from his second marriage. He had three children by that marriage; Lena "Lea" Rodgers who married an Oscar Hawkins I think, Emma Rodgers who married a Thomas Blackerby and moved to Montgomery, Al., and Lester Samual Rodgers, my grandfather, who also moved to Alabama. Dr. Rodgers also served in the 11th Ky U.S. Cav as an Asst Surgeon. I am unsure of his rank. Any info on who his parents or Rodgers line were would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, David Middleton Edelen II 184 Daffodil Ct. Millbrook, Al. 36054

    1. All Genealogist and Researchers- Save Our Access to Birth Records
    2. Deloris Williams
    3. This was in Today's Ancestry Daily News which I felt was of importance to everyone doing research. I would urge everyone to contact their Congressman immediately to stop this bill from restricting our access to these vital documents. Feel free to pass this along to anyone else interested in this. Deloris Williams Immediate Action Requested Legislation in Congress Seeks to Restrict Access to Birth Records; FGS Recommends Writing to Your Congressional Representatives The U.S. House of Representatives is considering a bill, House Resolution 10 (H.R. 10), which seeks to restrict access to birth certificates. This bill, which purpose is to respond to the threat of terrorism, is on a fast track to passage and has been voted on by several committees already. Your help is needed now. David Rencher, Chairman of the Record Access and Preservation Committee, a joint committee of the National Genealogical Society and Federation of Genealogical Societies, has sent a letter to the bill's sponsor, Congressman Dennis Hastert, recommending an amendment to the bill as follows: "However, nothing in this Chapter 2 shall be construed to require a State to change its law with respect to public access to (A) non-certified copies of birth certificates, or to (B) birth certificates or birth records once a period of 100 years has elapsed from the date of creation of the certificate or record." A copy of the letter is available on the FGS site at www.fgs.org/rpa/formalactions.htm. To view this bill, go to http://thomas.loc.gov. Enter HR 10 in the search box for "Bill Number." Action Is Needed Now Because this bill is moving toward passage so quickly, it is urged that the genealogical community take action immediately and let their representatives know that they are in support of David Rencher's amendment and the FGS position in this important matter. To find your state representative's contact information, go to www.house.gov/writerep/. How Should I Word My Letter? While you should word the letter in any way that is comfortable for you, it is recommended that you include the following as a portion of the letter: "While I support the intention to increase security to protect the U.S. from terrorists and those who wish to improperly take U.S. identities, I am concerned that those researching their family's history continue to have access to non-certified birth records. Therefore, in order to support HR-10 I ask that you amend HR-10 Section 3063(d)(2) by adding the following wording to the existing paragraph: 'However, nothing in this Chapter 2 shall be construed to require a State to change its law with respect to public access to (A) non-certified copies of birth certificates or to (B) birth certificates or birth records once a period of 100 years has elapsed from the date of creation of the certificate or record.' I believe that this additional language is imperative so that the states do not react by restricting all certificates to comply with the law, rather than dealing with certified as opposed to non-certified birth certificates. This proposed amendatory language would remind them that they can and should be treated differently." --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 1. Re: [RODGERS] Rodgers Living In Alabama
    2. Thank you so much for the reply, I have been searching for a long time for my line on the Rodgers family, I have found my Rodgers in Alabama only 1970 census. I would love to be able to connect him to a family in 1850-60. Joseph Rodgers born around 1843 or so. In a message dated 10/6/2004 1:40:47 PM Eastern Standard Time, hdilt@swbell.net writes: I am researching a Sarah Rodgers who was born in VA c1809 and died in Indiana c1844. Her husband, Peter Anderson came on to AR where he died and three known children were orphaned and reared by white families in AR. She was full blood and we think Delaware. Family said she was Cherokee and the Cherokee did adopt the Delaware in about 1860 so we had Delaware Cherokee. The reason we think Delaware is the migration route they took from VA/IN/MO/AR/OK. Please keep me in mind if you find more on a Rodgers family that leads you from AL back to VA. I will also watch for your line. My children have roll numbers for the Cherokee from their father's side of the family. 3. Patricia Mills, I have a grGrandfather who may or may not have been born in Alabama on April 28, 1863 and died before 1900. His name is Shadrach/Shadrick Norval Rodgers. I would guess there is some Cherokee in the line. He was married to Ida Belle Johnson at Mt. Ida, near Hot Springs, 12 Dec. 1887. That is all the information I have.
