    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hgDBAIB/1605.4.1 Message Board Post: Hello, Here is a family tale of the spellings and my gr. gr'father Dr. John F. Rodgers that I have heard through the family grape-vine: My great grandfather, Dr. John Fleming Rodgers of Ky., had some brothers who, disgraced and angry because Dr. Rodgers rode with the Union (they all rode with the Confederacy), dropped the "d" from their names and from then on spelled it "Rogers" instead of Rodgers". Just a unsubstantiated tale but interesting none the less. I do wish I could find out who Dr. Rodgers' parents or line were. His obit says he was born in Bourbon Co., Ky but I have also heard that on his marriage certificate to his first wife, who I think was Margeret E. Pattie, it said he was born in Franklin Co.. I know he lived there at one time. His obit says he lived the last 28 yrs of his life in Clifton, Woodford Co., Ky., dying there in 1902 and is buried in Versailles, Ky. (he was born around 1827). His 2nd wife, my great grandmother, was Sarah Isabel Williams, known as "Belle". They had three kids, Lea, Emma, and Lester, my grandfather. Dr. Rodgers went to Med School at Eclectic Medical Institute or college in Cincinattie, Oh., and he served with the 11th Ky U.S. Cav during the War for Southern Independence as an Asst-Surgeon. His son, my grandfather, Lester Samuel Rodgers, used to write to some cousins in Midway, Woodford Co., Ky.. Lester wound up in Alabama where he met my grandmother and settled down. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, David Middleton Edelen II Millbrook, Al. k98@bellsouth.net

I have been olding a copy of your imput for about a year and have finally taken the time to read it more thoroughly. My wife's mothers family were Rodgers. Marion W. C. was her mothers father. Marion married Marion. We have been trying to get connected with his father John F. Rodgers. We know he was born, November 28, 1829 and that he married Mary Ann Lundy. I have somewhat of a conection to an Eli Rodgers. It is said that he is the father of John F. I wonder if you have anything further on Eli Rodgers or a James Rodgers. James is said to be the brother of John F. None of what we have on Eli has been confirmed. Any information you may be able to offer will be greatly appreciated. Incidentlly, if you need any information onf Elizabeth or Marion and the decendants, I will be happy to provide it to you. Please respond using the e-mail address: rwilkie33@aol.com. wilkie

They lived their lives in the Rocky Springs Community, Madisonville, TN and raised 6 children. She died 10-19-1951. I descend from this couple. Family story is that Ella was in an orphanage and Mr. Henry BALL took her from there & raised her. Ella’s mother was Susie (could be Susan) PATTERSON. In Ella’s adult life, she did have occasion to meet with her ½ sisters. BIRDIE & CORDIE. There are several photos in our family’s box of Birdie & Spencer Giles and Cordie Patterson. There may also be a ½ sister with the last name MORGAN. I recently found a photo of the James PATTERSON family on the Monroe County, TN web page that includes Birdie (Permedia) and Cordie (Cordela). I would like to correspond with any connecting family members to try to fill in the blanks about the Patterson/Rodgers family. You may contact me on or off list about my Grandma WILSON. Surnames: Rodgers, Rogers, McCook, Lashley, Aderholt, Dempsey,Dorman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hgDBAIB/1766 Message Board Post: James W. Rodgers is listed on the 1900 Florida, Hamilton Co. Westlake census. (Indexed as Kodgers). This is my paternal great grandfather. I am listing the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census info I have found. I have yet to find him or any of the family on the 1930. Have a rather wide range for his year of birth too, 1848 to 1854. When I first started my Rodgers research, info (verbal family history) said James W. Rodgers was from Virginia. Another source (a new found cousin) said he came from Kentucky. But all census records I have found give Georgia as his place of birth and also for his parents. Here is the census info: 1900>Florida>Hamilton Co>Westlake Series: T623, Roll: 169, Page 216 James W. Rodgers, age 50 GA. GA. GA. (year of birth given, 1850). wife - Dilla A., age 26. son - Jesse J., age 10. daughter - Ada, age 8. son - William, age 6. daughter - Ollie, age 4. James Rodgers, age 64. wife, Dilla A. age 50. daughter Ada V. age 26. daughter Julia age 19. daughter Lula age 13. son Elzie age 12. son Rubin age 10. son Horace age 7. James Rodgers married Dilla Ann Dempsey in Hamilton Co., Florida, 1888. She was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Dempsey and Martha Elizabeth Dorman. Ada Rodgers married Sherman Lashley. Lula Rodgers married Lee Aderholt. Ollie Elizabeth Rodgers married Alexander O. McCook. Both James and Dilla Ann are buried at Rosemary Cemetery, Suwannee Co., Florida. (no readable dates are on headstones). Rubin, Elzie and Horace are also buried at Rosemary. They are all buried with the spelling ROGERS. Horace died of accidental gunshot at about age 19. Except for more information on my McCook/Rodgers connection through my grandparents marriage, this is the extent of my RODGERS information. If you are connected to any of the above persons or have information that might help me add to my research data, I would welcome a response:). I would really like to find James W. Rodgers' parents and find out if he had any siblings. Thanks, Linda McCook McCook Family Connections http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mccookfamilyconnections
