Hi to everyone, I have been eagerly reading all your postings for nearly a year now and hoping that one day someone will come up with a Rodgers, Rogers or a Scott Rodgers somewhere in the world. Mine came from Norfolk, England. They are around the Southery, Feltwell Kings Lynn and Great Yarmouth area in the 1800.s and up to 1901. I have traced back via my mother to my great great grandfather William Scott Rodgers. The family use all the above spellings with and without the Scott. On his marriage certificate to Ann Maria Nungill Edwards (another brickwall) in 1849, he names his father as William Benton, I have been unable to find him either. Basically I am in dire need of anyone who could shed light on my dilemma. Help, Please, anyone!!!!!!! I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and to everyone whether or not you celebrate Christmas a very happy and most of all a peaceful 2005 Pam Notman.
Hello all, It is I, the seemingly lone descendent of Dr. John Fleming Rodgers of Versaiiles area, Ky.. I was worried about my other mesage to the list being messed up so I am trying again.I was wondering if anyone else is descended from or knows of the following names associated with his family. The first list of which some if not all turned out to be cousins of Lester Samuel Rodgers, my grandfather, as was seen on old postcards to and from them in ther early 1900s. On some of the old post cards to Lester Samuel Rodgers it said at the end; "Your Cousin, Kizzie", or "Your cousin, K. R.", and another from Joe Rodgers, and Albert and Sam Roberts, etc.. So at least they are cousins of Lester S. Rodgers, but who their parents were is not known at this time. Here they are: 1. Mary--Mrs. Early Morris, cousin of Lester S. Rodgers. 2. Kizzie--Mrs. Wm. Renam, cousin to L.S. R. Living in Midway, Ky. around 1911. 3. Lizzie--Mrs. Richard Dixon. 4. Rosa--Mrs. Hubert Woodard. 5. Tille--Mrs. P.T. Moore. 6. Carrie--Mrs. Carrie R. Lucas. 7. Josephine Rodgers 8. Sam(S.H.Roberts) 150 1/2/ Market St., Midway, Ky. (was there around 1909, 1910, etc.. I'm not sure if he was the husband of Josephine or not), cousin of L.S.R.. 9. Albert Roberts, cousin of L.S.R.. Midway, Ky.? 10. John Rodgers, Midway, cousin of L.S.R. 11. Joe Rodgers, cousin of L.S.R. 12. Hardin Rodgers, probably a cousin.. 13. Claude Williamson, 404 Ohio St., Laforte, Indiana. 14. Molly Martin, Midway, Ky.. A lot of his cousins that he was writing back and forth to seemed to live in and around Midway, Ky., etc.. Here are some more names; MARGARET E. PATTIE, B. 11/14/1837--d. ??. She and Dr. Jhn F. Rodgers were married on Dec. 22, 1853 in Frankfurt, Franklin Co., Ky.. According to Susan Cieply, Margaret's parents were William S. Pattie, (2/19/1810--12/30/1883), and Mary Jane Smart, (3/23/1818--d11/27/1877), both born in Ky. William and Mary were married on 12/17/1835. Dr. Rodgers and Margaret's kids were: 1. Mary Jane Rodgers, b. Ky. 1856-m-George P. Smith 2. Almira "Allie" Vaughn Rodgers, b. Ky. in 1865-m- 3. Fannie Thomas Rodgers, b. Ky. 1869-70-m-Mr. Greenwood. I have been told that Mary, Allie, and Fannie supposedly wound up in Texas and were on the census there in the 1920s. I have no idea what happened to Margaret, their mom. The 2nd wife of Dr. Rodgers was SARAH ISABEL WILLIAMS, B. in Kentucky--Died: Birth and Death date is not for certain. According to the Ky Death Records on KyGenWeb there was a Belle Glass (Belle Rodgers remarried a Glass after Dr. Rodgers died) who died at age 69 in Anderson on 7/20/1932. This puts that Belle as being born in 1863, which would make her 17 yrs old in 1880, the same age as the "Sallie Belle Rodgers" on the 1880 census then living with Dr. Rodgers. Probably the same person. Sarah Isabel Williams was the 2nd wife of Dr. Rodgers, known as "Belle". The family all called her "Ma Belle". She remarried a Mr. R. M. (Robert I think) Glass after Dr. Rodgers died. Lester her son corresponded with someone named Julius Glass, some kin to Belle Glass I am sure, perhaps a son or step son, nephew or whatever, or perhaps her new husband or something. She is possibly the "Sallie Belle Rodgers" listed with the Dr. on the 1880 Woodford Co., Ky. Census. If so, then she was born around 1863. The first wife and their several children unknown for sure. Their kids were: 1. Lena "Lee" Rodgers, b. (?)-- (Deathdate is unsure, but some info on the KyGenWeb said she died 7/20/1951 in Franklin/Anderson, Ky.) -m-Mr. Oscar Keith Hawkins, b. (?)--(Death info came from same source as his wife Lee's) D. 3/13/1959 in Franklin/Anderson, Ky. Postcards dated around 1932 to and from Lena and her brother Lester were postmarked to Mrs. O. K. Hawkins, Lawrenceburg, Ky.. Lester called her "Lea". Issue: (A) Oscar Fleming Hawkins-m-Connie Brandon, (B) Ruby Hawkins-m-Mallie M. Honaker. One source says that "Lea" and Oscar lived in Pikesville, Ky. possibly around 1929. 2. Emma Rodgers -m-Thomas O. Blackerby, Sr.; issue: (A) Thomas O. Blackerby, Jr. -m-(?); issue: (A1) Thomas Blackerby III. (B) Dorathy Blackerby, b. 1912 in Bloomfield, Ky., Died March/April, 2003 in Montgomery, Alabama. They were in Nelson Co., Ky. in 1910. Some old post cards have Emma and Thomas in 1912 and as late as 1917 in Taylorville, Ky.. they evidently movd around a lot such as Dorathy being born in Bloomfield, Ky. in 1912. But eventually moved to Montgomery, Alabama, living there for the remainder of their lives. Their descendants still live there now. I have only spoken to one or two on the phone. 3. *Lester Samuel Rodgers, b. 9/30/1887 in Decatur Co., Indiana, grew up in Clifton, Woodford Co., Ky.--d. 1954 in Montgomery Ala., V.A. Hospital. Buried in Prattville, Al.-m-Maude Janet White, b. 10/12/1892--d. 6/25/1985(see below). Any info on any of the people listed above or their descendents would be greatly appreciated. David, I was interested in your posting since I am researching an ancestor, Rachel Anderson, whose father was Peter Anderson and mother was Sarah Rodgers. According to family lore Sarah was Native American, born in VA c1809 and Rachel and her brothers William and Alexander were born in IN. Our family thought that they were Cherokee but the migration route does not fit, however the route from IN down through KS and AR does fit the Delaware migration and the Delaware were lated adopted into the Cherokee tribe as Delaware Cherokee. Sarah (Rodgers) Anderson died in IN c1840 more or less. Another interesting fact is that the Anderson surname is common among the Delaware, even the name of one Chief William Anderson. He is not our line however. Peter and the children came on to AR where he died leaving three children who were taken in by white families These white families were also my ancestors and two of the three children married members of those families. Rachel had hair that was straight and black and hung to the floor so she could stand on it. She was petite and could read and write. Her brothers used to speak of signs on trees and other Indian lore. We think they were near Versailles also at one time. There is a historical and genealogical library in Versailles that I visited briefly last year. It has some of the oldest records in the area. Note the boundary changes for the area around Versailles over the time period also if you have not already. Many of the Native American tribes took in slaves or Freedmen and they might become very accepted for bravery and courage which mattered more than color. My children have Cherokee roll numbers through their father's line also and he was what is referred to as a white Indian, choosing to come west on the Trail of Tears and lose his property rather than giving up his wife. In Oklahoma, many of us have some Native American blood. There is also the Melungeon possibility. Anyway, if you ever run into a Sarah Rodgers, please keep me in mind and I will do likewise. Thank you for your time and consideration. Maybe Santa will finally bring me some information about my long lost great grandmother's family. Ellen (Nellie) Rodgers born 1845 in Ireland. She does not show up on paper until the day she married in Philadelphia PA in 1870 to John McCrea. They settled in Chestnut Hill PA and had 8 children. She is dead by 1889. Searching for her parents and siblings. Possible brother named Patrick but can find no information to link this Patrick Rodgers to her. Anyone???

Hello, I too have wondered if my Rodgers had some sort of Native American or even African-American blood or ancestor way back somewhere. My mom, uncle, and my uncle's sons all had sort of slightly olive complexions, with very dark brown to black hair. My mom and uncle both had very dark, almost black eyes.
