Hi. I'm brand new to this list as of yesterday. The farthest I can trace the Rogers/Rodgers line in my family is to Dover Township, Ocean County, NJ in 1850 (census). I've never been able to discover the "fathers" name. The mothers first name was Asenath B. Rogers (married name). Asenath is buried in the Good Luck Cemetary, Lanoka Harbor, Ocean Co., NJ (b. 1704 - d. 1870). The family is supposed to have been "Sea Captains". The children are :John W (boatman), Jesu (spelling??), Forman (farmer than sea captain), Rebecca, Ann, Althea, Elvira (my gggrandmother) and Asenath O. Is anyone else researching this line or can give me a few suggestions?? Hello all, I am desperately trying to find out more about the Irish lineage of the Rogers family-does anyone have any pointers or info that might help me? I have looked on different websites and have found a lot of the same family given names, but I have no connection-as far as they 'definately' came over ont his date...blah blah...the closest I can get is that some of my branch came from South Carolina and in my meanderings I have found that YES there were immigrations from Ireland to SC but I cannot find names on the ship logs. any help???(rumor has it they came over in the potato blight) thanks in advance, saunya *Rogers* Hildebrand ==== ROGERS Mailing List ==== Unsubscribe? Daniel ROGERS, d. 7/1809, in SC is my GGGGG-Grandfather. His wife was Sarah UNK. Daniel Rogers, Sr. was a planter in the southern part of Colleton Co., Granville Dist., SC and settled here bef. 1760 (see ARW war record of Daniel Rogers, Jr.). He owned land near a Col. Ford who held in his possession the birth record of Daniel Rogers, Jr. and possibly other Rogers records. What became of these records after Col. Ford's death is not known. Living in Edgefield Dist., SC, in 1779; moved sometime aft. 1768 to area of Chapells and Saluda from deeds and plats. He has two pre-Revolutionary plats in SC Archives. They show original land grants in 1761 and 1767. He later bought and sold other properties as shown by plats and deeds immediately. In other information, it appears that Daniel ROGERS, Sr., was the immigrant for this family and came from Ireland. I have been blessed in a large part of this research bec. of "The ROGERS Family", a book written in the early 1960s by Eme O'Dell Bannister, a relative. Daniel ROGERS, Jr., lived out his life in Edgefield Dist., SC, and his son Felix ROGERS was born there. Felix ROGERS md. Cassandra PARKINS in Edgefield Dist. and moved to Pickens Dist. around 1835 or a bit later. He and successive generations of our ROGERS line are buried in Pickens Co., SC, many of them at Enon Baptist Church. I have quite a bit of further info on all the persons above. My focus at this point is: 1) locating Sarah's (Daniel, Sr.'s wife) maiden name, 2) I would also like info and/or parents on Lucretia HARRIS ROGERS, 3) Parents and info on Cassandra PARKINS ROGERS I will be happy to share what info I can with anyone who is interested in this line. The book is old and is not indexed so it means that any searching involves a lot of time. It is prob. about 500 pages or so in length. Daniel and Sarah had the following children: Daniel, Jr.(md. Lucretia HARRIS); Hannah (md. William MELTON), Elizabeth (md. Elisha NELSON), Susannah (md. Isaac REED). Thank you for your time and any help! Godspeed... Dolores M. Nancy, I saved your post and am just now getting a chance to check my information. Here is something that might help. I can't be sure its the same Reuben, ( I capitalized his name below to make him easier to spot) but the timing is about right and he was born in NY. I gave you the whole family so if it is the right Reuben you have more information to research from. There is no William, but since you were running into dead ends, for what it's worth here it is. In the James Swift Rogers book publ 1902 "James Rogers of New London CT & His Descendants", on pages 170 - 171, it states: (183)Eld. Cary(5) Rogers (Nathan(4), Jonathan(3), Jonathan(2), James(1), born May 22, 1745 in Waterford, CT; died Oct. 26, 1822, in Grafton, NY; married Dec 10, 1767, in Westerly, RI, Martha (Patty) Rathbone of Exeter, RI, born July 29, 1749; died Feb 22, 1826. He was a minister of the Seventh Day Baptist church, and was located at Grafton, NY. He lived in New London during the Revolutionary War, and his father's house was used as a guard-house by the British, when they burned the city. He went from New London to Hopkinton, RI, working with his uncle, Eld Joseph Davis, to learn the cabinet-making trade. He had been educated in strict observance of the seventh day Sabbath, but while in Hopkinton united with the New Light Baptist church, as was ordained a deacon. After his marriage he removed to Hoosick, NY and thence in 1797 to Grafton NY, where he was ordained a minister of the gospel, and labored faithfully in the service for many years. Children: Martha, (6) b Sept 16, 1768, in Hopkinton; d. April 20 1824; m. Samuel Griffith of Stephentown, NY. They had nine children. Clark, b. May 26 1771 in Hopkinton; m. Rebecca Turner; res.
