    3. Wow, what a wealth of sites to research for our Rogers....thanks Dan........ Genealogy is a hobby or fun project that we undertake for ourselves primarily and starting a thread of flaming messages does not do anything for anyone.....Yes, and Dan is exactly right......if we could each of us subscribe to a mailist and find that someone else has our exact family researched back to 500 AD wouldn't that be greaaat...but it would also have been your brother that did that. Most of us know our immediate family and are looking to connect to that second cousin of your GGGF...it takes time, money, and a lot of hard work. I rarely see my Rogers line here but I continue to do my research and sometimes I get lucky and find something on your Rogers line and I post it so you might see it......sometimes I get lucky and find a real cuz here and we compare notes...... It seems to me that this is a rehash of the 1999 fuss over the recording of a CD with Rogers data and it split the mailist into two factions........let's get over it!!! Those that bought the CD and those that didn't buy the CD each got what they wanted...... I also saw the message re: a new Rogers mailist, read it, said hummmm, and went on to the other 125 message of the day......if you want it, join it...if you don't want it, why tell everyone else............ Be nice.......... 3. Even tho I get bogged down and feel I will never learn my genealogy I take a great pride in communicating with other of whom I might be related to . Can you imagine the excitement to find out who you were working with funneled down to be a cousin , OH Yes I can say I know because I have found over 2 dozen on my paternal line just from here at RW , so yes it doe's work. I am in Oregon, any one need extra special lookups I can provide them if they are not too far away . I also go the State archive a lot. I also have a digi camera and can get cemetery pictures or what ever you need a photo of , I am near Salem so I cover a large area here . If I can't solve mine, maybe I can get some one else to screech (thanks) for a connection <G> Dan ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, June 15, 2000 11:33 AM Subject: [ROGERS] To Dan > Wow, what a cheerleader you are. Hmmm ( you ever wonder why?) I might be able to hand a small item I know to be true. Its like this You are doing research on (( your )) line , Ok so there is NO one in your line doing genealogy , or has a computer, much less on the internet any where . So you are basically stuck on your own , and with a air of hope some other Rogers researcher might post a glimmer of a find , or do a piece of research in another state where they live , just special for you . Lots of us have the same problem, * no one in our lines to share data* this makes research sort of cold duck but like any scavenger hunt you must persevere to win in the end and quitting will never do that. You must follow a few guides 1 USE the SUBJECT line to advertise (what) *you* want 2 post pertinent query that will help you 3 ask for help , sharing is a valuable tool Say Thanks we have broad shoulders and can accept praise <grin> 4 Never tell the list or the people on it any thing negative, they may decide not to share or help, much less even post some even leave - it might be a first cousin you will never meet ? Have you tried your Rootsweb Host pages ??? http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/r/o/ROGERS/ go here and scroll the page and make use of it too . Also use Your Rogers Genconnects. those are Yours and only useful if you use them. Folks with Genconnect you do not even need a CD project you have the world at your own fingers and people read those websites , POST your Query to Genconnet and also subscribe to your Query and you will automatically receive all new replies to it. If you need help getting a stronger research going on RW or need some hints or a little PC help when you get jammed up , just ask . It is witnessed by Thos. Wright and Jesse Cook. Mathw. S. Moore Justice of the Quorum interviews Hopey Rogers and names her as Shadrack's wife. If you are from Shadrack its a typed version and says its on Page 265 of Book D. Anyway I can type it up or scan it as is. 3. I will say amen to this view. I think things got out of hand about the CD project. I think we should all shake hands and work to make this site better, if possible. I think Tom's CD project was good, he put in a lot of hard work. Things just got out of hand when he went a little over board with advertising on this list. He could have just gotten everyone's name, which he has now), and corresponded direct and not used the list to promote his CD. A lot of harsh words were said. So I say, let us all make up and work on this list, together. Roy To be Frank and quite honest I DO not see any reason to start another ROGERs type list, or undermine one that is already going fine, I protest this New list and have filed a complaint to RW for duplicating ROGERS-L As for a CD project I also have a CD Writer , should have our own list project ? I see no reason to have any more Rogers lists to have to deal with . Any one else have any views on this ? Dan Neither do I Dan. Haven't we been down this road already??? 3. Personally, I think it is a GOOD idea. Many lists have more than one type for SURNAMES. This one will enable interested folks to discuss only the CD names etc. I find on the "regular" ROGERS list that I find most postings are not in my line, and with this list, I can choose what line to inquire or post about. I haven't wanted to unsubscribe from the ROGERS-L for fear I might miss something, but it takes up a lot of time reading EMails that I can't use. Who cares really. Everyone has the same desire to find their ancestors I really do not think it is a problem. It is interesting to me though that there is so much fussing on this Rogers list. Must be a family trait (lol). I do not see it on the other lists that I subscribe to. If anyone is interested: I am desperate to find my Rogers line. This is what I know or at least what I think I know. Jimmie Rogers married Katherine Norris. They were in Smith County in 1875 when their son William Pickney Rogers was born. Supposedly they came from the Atlanta area and prior to that SC or NC. William Pickney Rogers married Lula Mae Maxey. Their son, William Burnon Rogers was my grandfather. This line is giving me so much grief and my dang Rogers relatives that daughters of William Pickney swear they do not know anything about the family. Claimed they did not even know their grandfather's name. I found the name Jimmie Rogers and Katherine Norris on William Pickney's death certificate. So, that is what I am basing my information on. This group of Rogers lived in Smith, Covington, Jasper and Jones counties. ANYONE with any information ideas suggestions please write back........The Rogers family seems to be so closed mouth about anything to do with the past. 3. In Baltimore,County deed books in Liber WG,No. D,E,F,G,H,I,K,L,M,on LDS film # 13341 & 13342 is a lot of ROGERS info. I found BENJAMIN ROGERS,CHARLES ROGERS,PHILLIP ROGERS,NICHOLAS ROGERS, RICHARD ROGERS and ELENOR ADDISON ROGERS and also a CATHERINE ROGERS. BENJAMIN had wife ANN & CHARLES had wife AMELIA. These deeds were in the 1779 to 1783 eras. BENJAMIN & CHARLES were probably brothers. PHILLIP & NICHOLAS were possibly brothers. These are not my ROGERS,but may help some one.
