I don't know what happened -- duhhhhh - but the nice friendly Rootsweb main site seems to have disappeared "morphed" into a site with what appears to be nothing but advertising couldn't do a standard list-search to save my life ... anyone else find this?
Be sure you are at http://rootsweb.com/ and scroll below the first search field and search in the block at the left that is entitled "Search RootsWeb" -- do not use the other blocks unless you want to and you have an Ancestry subscription. I searched Slepicka and received the following WorldConnect 69 Social Security Death Index 119 Rootsweb Surname List 4 Search for a living SLEPICKA in the MyFamily People Finder Vital Records Matches California Death Index 13 Texas Death Index 1 Other Searches Matches Web Site Search 67 BLM/GRO Land Records 1 Newspaper Indexes 1 Obituary Daily Times 7 Those results appear to be free databases. I got in via http://archiver.rootsweb.com and by http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com but everytime I tried http://www.rootsweb.com or even http://searches2.rootsweb.com up came this messy commercial site which drove me nuts; I dislike "cookies" at the best of times, and a popup ad which asks me to pick it as my new home page just infuriates me I miss the quaint cross-stitched original Rootsweb site; it appears to have disappeared; I guess I will have to ask for an Ancestry.com or GenealogyLibrary.com subscription for my birthday ...
