this was posted on Rootsweb in 2001, on the IOWA list ..... ....site that will do free lookups for you, the one listed below is the one for Iowa Marriages 1851-1900. There are many other lookups they will do for you..... http://www.ancestralfindings.com/cd222.htm haven't checked it out myself, it just came up in a search on Google actually, though it is frustrating at times, it is great fun being a beginner at tracing family ... the rewards come fairly quickly after a bit of hard work ... as you learn techniques, you surmount ever-bigger brick walls, and the rewards may not come as often (but they are still sweet) one of the best ways to gather information is to sign up for the various county and surname mailing lists available from Rootsweb, read the back archives of those too, and check the Genforum message boards some people love Ancestry.com (some records are free, most require a subscription) and others say they haven't gotten much information the LDS church has masses of records on its website, but DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU SEE JUST BECAUSE IT'S THERE -- for reasons too complicated to go into this late at night, there are a lot of "lineages" which incorporate people who are not related to each other in the way they are presented; and there are "composite" people sort of *created* by merging the information from two or three or five or ten actual people ... not all of whom were related -- there are also many quite accurate records, and it's difficult-to-impossible to tell those apart sometimes Candy (actually only an experienced-beginner) Candy
