Ok,,,now my Father was Army, but with the 101st Airbourne Division in 1964. I know my Mother draws a compensation check since his death, but where would I find his records......There is no Social Security information on him, but there is a number...I have it from the "Few" letters Mom got after his death. So....where does one find these records? .....and why isn't there Social Security info on him in the SSDI???? Cathey
I sent this link a while back : http://www.archives.gov/facilities/mo/st_louis/military_personnel_records.ht ml It will tell you everything you need to know about getting military records. Since your father died after 1960, the Saint Louis Military Personnel Center should have the records. As for why he doesn't show up in the SSDI -- he may have passed away before the SSDI was kept, and also -- he may not have had a SSN as they didn't start using SSN's as service numbers until the late 60's to early 70's. In getting records, use the number that your mother has -- it probably is his service number, or it could be a VA number, in which case you would have to contact the VA.
