CHECK UP ON 'EM AT WORK This week's tip comes from Helen McCollum of Philadelphia: "While investigating my grandfather, I hit a brick wall, so I called the company where he used to work. I asked for the personnel office, explained what I was doing and asked if they would check their files for any info with my grandfather's name. I stated that I would be glad to pay for their time, but they said no, they would be happy to look up my grandfather's name and mail me anything they find. "Today I received their package and in it was my grandfather's birth certificate from Poland, as he never became a US citizen and had to prove his birth when he went on pension. I also received insurance cards showing my great-grandparents' names and where they were born. It would have taken me years to get a birth certificate and more years to find my great-grandparents' names."
