What state ;did your father reside in when he served in World !.? I live in Missouri and all my father's records are free for the asking in the Missouri State Archives and that is true for Illinois as well. Would this apply to WW2 vets also? My uncle was killed in action in WW2 and I have waited for records and after a year got a note from someone they are so behind it will be months longer, but he was a former Police chief from Cook Co so maybe they have records.
