The weather at the Shore has been so depressing that I've given up on my brick walls for awhile - need some inspiration - anyone out there who could offer some?????
Hi all, I thought I was the only one with this insidious epidemic. In a way, I was keeping it a secret.....I thought I was the only one who hated the "data entry" part of the fun Genealogy part!!!<smile> Kate ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharon Workman" <workman@dreamscape.com> To: <ROCKINGCHAIR-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 09, 2003 6:24 PM Subject: Re: [RC-ROOTS] doldrums > Ruth and Rockers, > I've had a couple days like that, too. Can someone tell me how I might get a copy of the following, Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files, 1800-1900, M804, rolls 461-1710? I found a relatives name. It has a number beside the name. I'm trying to figure out if there is a fee and how much? I would appreciate any help. Candace
Some really old records If you are putting together a family tree or looking for someone or some information, the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration gives online access to its databases through the Access to Archival Databases. For example, if you are looking for information about someone (U.S. military or civilian) who may have been a prisoner of the Axis Powers during World War II, you now have the ability to search online for his or her record. Use this site to gain access to a selection of nearly 50 million historic electronic records on a wide range of topics. It not only provides the electronic documents but important contextual information to help you understand the records better. So how do you wade through all of those documents? The AAD provides a glossary of terms and a help section that walks you through the process. TO VISIT THIS SITE, GO HERE: http://www.archives.gov/aad/
Why is this on a genealogy mailing list? Elaine Dignity consists not in possessing honors, but in the consciousness that we deserve them. --Aristotle Hello GrandmaBigeye On Saturday, June 7, 2003, you wrote > Hi Friends, > A disgusting film set <snip>
Hi, all- Please do not comment on list about the non-genealogy chain letter which was posted here. Remember that the list is for GENEALOGY discussion. Thanks! Joan, administrator
Hi Friends, A disgusting film set to appear in America later this year depicts Jesus and his disciples as homosexuals! As a play, this has already been in theatres for a while. It's called "Corpus Christi" which means "The Christ Body." It's a revolting mockery of our Lord. But we can make a difference. That's why I am sending this e-mail to you. Will you please add your name to the bottom of the list at the end of this e-mail? If you do, we will be able to prevent this film from showing in America. After all, they're in enough trouble as it is. Hey, it's worth a shot! Apparently, some regions in Europe have already banned the film. All we need is a lot of signatures! Remember, Jesus said "Deny me on earth and I'll deny you before my Father". Please copy this message "Ctrl C" (i.e.. Please don't just forward it!!!) Paste the text in a new e-mail "Ctrl V", then add your name to the list and send it to all your friends. When the list you sign reaches 500 names, please send it to: homasg@softhome.net And then start again. A website for the University of Tennessee: http://president.tennessee.edu/announce/corpuschristi.shtml IF WE WORK TOGETHER WE CAN DO THIS. Thank You! Hello Juanita! How nice to get to share memories, so many decades later! Yes, I remember the "P" fields. During the war, some of the young men stationed at this naval base would attend church with us. A friend of mine first dated and then married a young marine she met in this way--after he had, fortunately, come through the war in the Pacific unscathed. I will never forget how fine he looked in his dress uniform--how fine all of them looked, airmen, sailors, marines--and what a hard war they had to go off to fight, from which some never returned. About the records. No, I have not heard of a destructive fire involving them. We could "Google" about it, I guess. -- Best regards, Mary The Bat! 1.61 on Windows XP 5.1 2600 Service Pack 1 On Tuesday, June 03, 2003, 3:31 PM, you wrote: j> My husband was stationed @ the Naval Air Station (NAS) Corpus j> Christi. My husband was stationed @ the Naval Air Station (NAS) Corpus Christi. We got to know the place well. Remember the surrounding Naval bases, called the "P" Fields? I don't think the Navy records from WW II were destroyed in the St. Louis fire, were they? I remember reading that it was mainly the Army records that were in the fire. juanita > Hello Elaine! > > Well, I imagine that anyone querying the Army about records, for > genealogical or other purposes, would receive a reply, no matter > which term is used--Air Corps or Air Force. > > But since the song lyrics remained so clearly with me, I wanted > to share with everyone my memory of "Army Air Corps." > > The Navy had an air wing, too. Actually what you say does make sense......Mom did make reference to a VA # while getting some medical card! Thanks, Cathey

Yes, and I used the incorrect term as well. The Air Corps was part of the Army, hence the Army Air Corps. The Air Force was to be born later .... Hello Elaine! Well, I imagine that anyone querying the Army about records, for genealogical or other purposes, would receive a reply, no matter which term is used--Air Corps or Air Force. But since the song lyrics remained so clearly with me, I wanted to share with everyone my memory of "Army Air Corps." The Navy had an air wing, too. I grew up near Corpus Christi, where a naval air station was built. Immediately after Pearl Harbor, packs of cards with silhouettes of airplanes became available (I think courtesy of the NAS), so civilians could spot friendly vs. unfriendly aircraft. I saw a good number of P-38s in the sky, but never a Zero. :) Anyway, people who know that someone they are seeking was in an air force, might want to check with the Navy, too. -- Best regards, Mary The Bat! 1.61 on Windows XP 5.1 2600 Service Pack 1 On Tuesday, June 03, 2003, 11:26 AM, you wrote: E> Yes, and I used the incorrect term as well. I know my Mother draws a compensation check since his death, but where would I find his records......There is no Social Security information on him, but there is a number...I have it from the "Few" letters Mom got after his death. So....where does one find these records? .....and why isn't there Social Security info on him in the SSDI???? Cathey
