Kate Towne Sherwin (her son is Thomas Roblee Sherwin) recently contacted me regarding her family history research. Here's an excerpt from her initial e-mail: "I came across your Roblee family site in my own genealogical research. I am descended from the Roblees in Saratoga Springs, Saratoga County, NY. I've only just begun my research, having back-burnered it for a couple of years, and visited the cemetery yesterday where I found all sorts of information I hadn't previously known." I suggested that she join the list (she has) and told her I would forward a combined message about her family to the list to see if anyone can help her--she is not as far as I know in my direct Roblee line but is probably related: Kate's grandfather is Roblee Towne, son of Helen Roblee (she married James Blaine Towne). Helen Roblee (Towne) is daughter of Chauncey Roblee (married Mary Gildersleeve). Chauncey Roblee is son of Hamilton Roblee (beleived married to Helen Martin). Hamilton's stone was the oldest she found in the Roblee lot at Greenridge Cemetery. He was born 1832 and died 1922. If anyone can help, please reply to the list or to Kate (e-mail: traleerose@irishabroad.com). Doug Detling
I found it interesting to hear of Roblees in Saratoga County. My ancestor, Samuel Roblee (c. 1777-1864 married Miriam or Marion Hinckley who may have been from the Town of Greenfield and Wilton , about a few miles NW and NE of Saratoga Springs. There was a Nathan Hinckley in the area abt 1775-1820 who had many children. -----Original Message----- From: Douglas G. Also living in the household was a female age 20-30. I am speculating that this is an unknown first wife and that Luther was a child of this marriage. He was then between the ages of 30 and 30, and his name appears as Rublee. Nathan J. Rublee A square crop of the wright ear Flint, January 29, 1842 The History of Genesee County indicates that Nathan (surname spelled Rublee) was in Flint before 1839. He was granted 80 acres in Gaines, Genesee Co, MI in 1838. He payed taxes in Gaines in 1844. (Source: Ellis, Franklin, 1828-1885. Ellis, Franklin. History of Genesee county, Michigan. With illustrations and biographical sketches of its prominent men and pioneers, 1879) In 1850, he was living in Flint. The spelling of his surname looks like Rublee or Rubler. He was age 40, born in NY. The only others living in the home were Luther, age 8 and Smith, age 8. Both boys were born in NY. Perhaps his first wife's surname was Smith? Nathan Rablee lived in Flint, MI in 1880. Was Eliza his second wife? Nathan may have had other children, although no other Rablees are listed in Michigan in 1880.
