    1. Delivering Family History Data on the Web
    2. Douglas Detling
    3. Presenting family history data on the Internet does not always have to be based on complex HTML formatted pages. Recently, genealogists have been experimenting with different ways to deliver data on the web, and I'm no exception, as my data base includes Bradts, Brotts, Bunkers, Winslows, Williams, Roblees and others galore. Wouldn't you know it, but the most heavily used surname in my data base is Archer. Based on a recent article in Richard Eastman's genealogy newsletter, I decided to try a program called The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding ©, written by Darrin Lythgoe. The program permits the genealogist to export family history data (an old-fashioned GEDCOM file), then import the file and convert it to a data base (in this case a MySQL data base on my web site, which runs under Linux). Information is delivered to the web site visitor by PHP scripts. Although it helps to know SQL and PHP, you don't have to (I certainly don't) if you know basic data base principles. If you'd like to see how it works, please visit my site at: http://www.greencity.org/TNG/index.php Any feedback is appreciated. You can also visit Darrin's site at: http://lythgoes.net/genealogy/software.php ______ Doug Detling

    1. Busy Times
    2. Bob Robblee
    3. Hello All, The past month or so has been rather busy and has not left much time for genealogy. And with Christmas approaching, I'm sure the fun will continue. I retired on Oct 26, and Hunting season began on Nov. 1. There has been a period of adjustment as this new phase of life begins. Busy does not seem to be a problem, though. Hunting season was good to us again and the last of the butchering will finish next week. With Becki's daughter and her family just down the block from us, we will have no problem emptying the freezer by next season. I received a letter this week from Jean [Robblee] Beer from PEI. It is as follows: ___________________________________________________ ReUnion Robblee-Roblee-Rublee Hurrah, another Robblee-Roblee-Rublee Reunion is being planned for 2005. The descendents of Thomas Robblee 1774-1854, Joseph Robblee 1778-1728, and William Robblee, 1776-??invite you to join us in another reunion to held in the The Garden of the Gulf, The Cradle of Confederation, Prince Edward Island, Canada. This event will take place on July 22, 23, and 24, 2005 at the Afton Hall Community Centre, New Dominion, Route 19. [Just outside Charlottetown] A map with directions, along with places to stay was inclosed. We hope that everyone books early. Please bring your genealogy, along with your talents as we are planning a variety concert. Registration fee is $20.00 per person, $5.00 per student, and children under 12, free. Registration will take place on Friday, July 22, 2005. Individuals may register between 1:00 and 4:00 PM. 1. Web Site
    2. Phil Roblee has asked me to provide my mailing address for financial contributions for the Roblee researchers web site (www.robleesonline.org). I am, of course, grateful for any financial support to help maintain the web site. At the same time, I am equally touched by the kind words offered by those unable to help in any other way but to say thanks. My address is listed in the signature line below. Just a few comments, at Phil's request, about the maintenance of the web site, and our related activities. The mailing list is maintained (without expense except a modest amount of time) at Rootsweb.com. As the list moderator, I just have to make sure people have no problem subscribing and unsubscribing to the list (either Roblee-L for individual messages or to Roblee-D for the digest mode). The web site has two financial components. The first is the annual expense to maintain the registration of our domain Robleesonline.org. The second is the hosting fee for the website. To reduce this expense, I pay for this on an annual basis rather than pay a monthly hosting fee. This year we moved the hosting to another ISP, and this move, I believe, will position us well to hold the line on our web site expenses. The new hosting service is one of the nation's largest, and most reliable, according to internet surveys. I have been quite happy to have so little problems moving the web site to the new ISP from the old one (the old domain and site is no longer on the web). Maintaining the site involves updating the files on my PC using Microsoft Front Page, then publishing these pages to the web site. The fee we are charged covers all the bandwidth traffic involved in modest family history site (I monitor the bandwidth use to make sure we are not exceeding the site limits). Phil's generous annual pledge and those of others, no matter how small, has been very helpful in maintaining our site. These contributions, made in November of each year, put us in the position to pay our renewal fees on a timely basis without interruption in our web site. Next year, given the capabilities of the new hosting service, I hope to make the site even more useful. ************* Doug Detling 725 Royal Ave., Apt. 81 Medford, OR 97504-6449 Please change your address book to list me as: doug.detling@greencity.org

    3. Hi Cousins: As you all know, Doug Detling maintains http://www.robleesonline.org/ for all of us. He does it out of the kindness of his heart, he does a great job with it, and he DOESN'T ASK FOR ANYTHING IN RETURN. We all benefit greatly from his efforts, and from his expense. We should not leave Doug to shoulder our entire burden. The website is not free. Doug has to pay annual charges (maybe more frequently) in order to keep us online. THE BILLS ARE DUE NOW and I am writing to ask any of you who can help do your part to "pay the bills" by send Doug a check. I have committed $50 each year, and if Doug will be kind enough provide his mailing address again, I will get my check out to him ASAP. Please do what you can, even it it's $5.00. We have a great thing in our Roblee/Robblee/Rublee website. We need to keep it that way. Thanks. Doug...could you please email us your snail-mail address one more time? Also, if you are willing, perhaps you could re-educate all of us about what's involved in keeping a website like ours going. I won't ask you to tell us how much time you put into it...that would make us all very uncomfortable, I'm sure. Thank you for you ongoing support and commitment, Doug. 3. Hi Phyllis -- It isn't unusual for this list to go through long dry periods, for sure. Regarding the Rapalje family -- for quite a while I collected information on Joris and Catalina and their desc. I have them in my database with all of their descendants that I could find at that time, in hopes that I could find a possible link to our family. But, I couldn't. I would be happy to send a report to anyone who would like to take up where I left off. It has been very quiet and I wanted to make sure I haven't been dropped from the list. It's a busy time of year for a lot of us but I'm still working on sorting through my misc. Roblee scraps of paper. Is anyone working on a line from Joris Jansen down to our Roblees? Some of us may not believe there is a connection there but if anyone is researching the children, I would be interested. My brief forays on rootweb have turned up no connection that I see. Russell Shorto's "Island at the Center of the World" was an easy read, a real hoot as we say, and tells a lot of juicy detail about the early settlement on Manhattan Island. Even if you don't subscribe to the Huguenot theory, it was a great book. Another great book is "The Seven Daughters of Eve" by Bryan Sykes. It explains about Mitochondrial DNA in a way that I could understand all of it but in enough detail to keep you on the edge of your seat (or up most of the night) reading. DNA reasearch anyone? Especially our French Roblee cousins? Happy Halloween if I don't talk to any of you. Phyllis Reed ==== ROBLEE Mailing List ==== Please visit our new web site - http://www.robleesonline.org/

    1. Great Read!
    2. I have found a great book on Dutch colonial New Amsterdam (New York). Russell Shorto's The Island at the Center of the World, is not only informative, it is at times so funny that you have to laugh out loud. For those who subscribe to the theory that the Roblees are descended from Joris Jansen Rapalje and Catalina Trico, there is some information on them (and their 11 children. They estimate there are 1 million descendants of the young textile worker and his teenage bride. If you don't agree, it's still a food book! Phyllis

    1. RUBLEE, Francis and sons
    2. Alger and Walcott Family
    3. Yesterday, I spent several hours looking through early town records of Berkshire, VT, held in the manuscript collection of the Vermont Historical Society. These are not the regular bound town records, but are loose sheets of paper. Lots of freeman's lists, election lists - and in the later years, detailed lists of scholars sent by which head of household in which school district. The documents span 1802 to about 1850. So, besides the honey story that I just sent -- and that I hope will amuse you as much as it did me -- I found something that confirms some of what I thought about Francis Rublee and sons, and corrected me on a working theory I had. On 1 Jan 1844, one school district in Berkshire included the following: Head of household: Wm. M. Rublee Scholars: Asbra Rublee, Martius Rublee Head of household: Francis Rublee Scholar: Ariel Rublee The first household is William Martindale Rublee. His sons are Francis Asberry Rublee, known as Asberry. And, Marcius Rublee. Francis Asberry was probably his son by Eliza Welch. He ends up living with his grandmother Eloyce Gray Rublee in Sugar Creek, Walworth, WI after both his grandfather and father die in Wisconsin. Marcius is very likely the son by Mary Ann Chamberlain. It appears that Wm. Martindale died before 1850, when Mary Ann and Marcius show up in the 1850 census living with Mary Ann's sister and her husband in Delevan, Walworth, WI. Ariel Parker Rublee was apparently the youngest child of Francis and Eloyce (Gray). He was born about 1828. From census records for Francis, he may have had a child or two that are not accounted for even yet. Very frustruatingly, I cannot find him in 1840, although from this scholar's list, it is evident that he was still in Berkshire. I tried making Ariel the child of a younger Francis, but that doesn't work. And, there is this. I am pretty sure that Eloyce's sister Bathsheba Gray married Ariel Parker. They lived in Richford, VT. Ariel is known to have a wife Bathsheba, but her last name is not known. They named a child Isaiah Gray Parker -- Eloyce and Bathsheba's father was Isaiah Gray. The Gray family is also where the name Martindale came from. Isaiah's wife was Bathsheba Martindale. Francis and Eloyce also had a daughter Katherine Bathsheba. Various members of Eloyce's family also settled in Wisconsin. So, the family looks like this. I deleted all of the text messages, so that message would not be too long. Cindy Walcott 1. B. said Honey being the property of the said Daniel Burleson and George Jewett and the value of seven dollars was by some person or persons unknown with force & arms feloniously taken, stolen and carried away from said tree in the woods and the said Daniel Burleson and George Jewett hath good reason to suspect and doth suspect that said Honey or part thereof is concealed in the dwelling house or out house of Alva Rublee & Beldon Rublee in Berkshire in the county of Franklin aforesaid whereupon the said Daniel Burleson & George Jewett pray that a warrant may issue to search for said Honey in the Dwelling house, barns and outhouses of the said Alva Rublee and Beldon Rublee aforesaid if the same be found upon the said search that the said Alva Rublee and Beldon Rublee be apprehended and dealt with as the Law directs. 3. Hello to All, Good luck to Phyllis in trying to find any tie to any Native ancestors. Verbal histories just don't cover detail. Mary Alice sent me a note mentioning her thoughts on Jeronimus Rapalie being possibly connected to our family and that she is keeping an open mind on the question. So, once more, into the fray. I, too, will keep an open mind on the question. And wish that I had more information available to settle this debate. But, even when I do, there will still be those who will not believe the facts because their minds have been made up. And they just don't have to accept these new facts, if they so choose. We have two Robblee wills from the 1790's from 2 separate areas. That of Thomas in Nova Scotia and William in Lanesborough, MA. I believe that the double b is significant to establishing the family in Europe and my research is continuing in that area. I also believe that Granville is a very significant name and clue in our ancestry. And note the names, Thomas, William, and Jeronimus, which I believe indicate different backgrounds. The most common spelling change in the name is to drop one b and this has happened in many parts of the family. The second is to change the o to u and drop one b. The Rapalie theory springs from the editor of the book, The History of the County of Annapolis, written just over one hundred years past. It is a theory because there has been no provable link as yet between the families, even in the recent past. Some plausibility continues because one branch of our family, Roblyer, whom I have as connected, changed their spelling to Raplee in NY about 1830. Oh, for more information. Fall is arriving here and the garden produce continues to move into storage. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob
