    3. Would like to "echo" Bergetta. If anyone on the list is ever visiting in this area of New York State,(the Lake George area)please give me a call, or an e-mail. I can guide you to some cemeteries where ROBLEEs are buried, both in this vicinity and in Washington County.( the ones in Washington County are about 70 miles from here, so maybe I can just give directions) We can have a visit and possibly share some genealogy. 3. Thanks to Bob for the news on the reunion. It sounds like everyone had a good time and learned a lot more about the ROBBLEE(and variations on the name) family. I doubt if we will ever travel that far, as we have become "stay at homes", but am glad to be kept updated. Hope everyone is in good health and having a safe and happy summer. JEAN THOMAS BAKER

    3. Good Morning, All, The 3rd Robblee [All name variants] Reunion took place at the Afton Community Centre on Prince Edward Island and was hosted by Jean [Robblee] Beer and her sisters, Mary [Robblee] Hunter, and Ruth [Robblee] Connors. After Friday afternoon registrations, various family members re-greeted and introduced themselves. Supper was provided for all present and conversations carried on into the evening. On Saturday, we gathered at noon at the hall for lunch. And were joined by additional family members from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. In my case, genealogy consumed most of my time while most others got re-acquainted and the kids had games and internet access. As to the question of how the name had gone through various spelling changes for which there is really no answer, we settled on the above title for the day. A grandaughter of Loring Joseph Robblee attended from the Boston area and extended our knowledge of that branch of the family. As well, 5 ggrandaughters of my ggrandfather's first family attended, extending my knowledge of that group. Also, from the Boston area, Bob Whitmarsh, a PEI Robblee descendent, and his wife were in attendance. Saturday evening saw 65 served for supper and was followed by entertainment from a local blue grass group. Sunday, some of the group met for lunch at the home of Harry Robblee of Tryon, PEI. All in all, a good time. Also, the site and time of the next reunion was decided upon. It will be held in the West this time, 3 years hence. And since Becki and I offered to host the event; in the vicinity of my home west of Innisfail, Alberta, Canada. Details, of course, will follow at the appropriate times leading up to the summer of 2008. Seeing as the "World Famous" Calgary Stampede runs the first 2 weekends in July, we will probably hold the reuinon during the second weekend of July that year. Make your trip a holiday as well as coming to the Reunon. We look forward to seeing many of you then. And HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

As you know, many people were injured in this bombing. Many of those injured were found with their cell phones. First responders used the injured person's cell phone to try and locate a family member that they could notify on the injured persons behalf. However the rescuers found it difficult to locate the appropriate person. Wireless subscribers are now being asked by Public Safety Officials all over the world to store the word "ICE" in their wireless phone address book and put an emergency contact number next to it. In the event of an emergency, this person would be contacted quickly by ambulance and hospital staff. It's just that easy! Please take a moment to program someone that you would like to be contacted in case of an emergency into your cell phone with the word "ICE". Public Safety officials around the world will know what this means. Also if you place a period or space before "ICE" then it will be the first item listed in your phone book. 2. Shoes! Hi cousin Lee, welcome! Funny about the shoes. When I was growing up just outside of North Creek, there were no shoe stores there so we had to go to the closest place to buy shoes, Art Brown's shoe store in Warrensburg, NY. I remember the smell of the leather and polish as Art Brown did his own repairs there in the shop and every fall I had to get my favorite kind of shoes, the ones with the picture of Buster Brown and his dog, Tag. Some of us do have theories on where the Roblee family came from before Huntington but we can't all agree on it yet...! Phyllis Reed

    2. HI Cindy, Good to hear from you! It sounds like the Rubblees/Roblees started out (as far back as we can all agree on) around Huntington, NY, the eastern half of Long Island, then moved across the water to CT, moving north and west as they went to MA, VT, then NY and points west. Were most of them farmers or do we see any other trades associated with the family? Just curious... Phyllis Reed

    1. William P. RUBBLEE or RUBLEE
    2. Alger and Walcott Family
    3. I found a couple of reference to this family in an early American newspapers collection I access through my membership to NEHGS. Two death notices, one for Mrs. Lydia Rublee and one for son William. So, thought I would send an update on this family. Cindy Walcott 22 May 2005 Family Group Sheet ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Husband: William Rubblee died at age: 42 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Born: 24 Sep 1765 in Dutchess Co., NY (prob) 1 Baptized: 6 Aug 1780 in Congr.Church, Lanesborough, MA 2 Died: 18 Feb 1808 in Lanesborough, Berkshire, MA 3 Father: William Robblee Mother: Keturah (Catherine) Baker William Rubblee probably lived most of the time in Lanesborough, MA. He was admitted to the Congregational Church there on 18 July 1779 (Lanesborough Congregational Church Records, Cooke Collection, Volume 19, Berkshire Athenaeum). The births of his children are recorded in the Lanesborough Town Records, although all on one page, so it is not certain that they were all born there. His son Rolli Rublee's gravestone indicates that he (Rolli) was born in 1793 in New Haven, Vermont. This is possible, as a William Rubblee owned property in New Haven. William and Hiram Rubblee, both of New Haven, bought land there on 12 Oct 1789. William, of New Haven, sold land on 21 Feb 1795. However, when Andrew Robblee bought land from William Robblee on 16 Feb 1797, both were residents of Lanesborough. Beginning in 1797, William paid his brothers to sign quitclaims, giving up the right left jointly to them by their father in 1792. He paid Andrew on 15 Feb 1797, Francis on 12 April 1798, John Brush and Erastus on 25 October 1800. All of these deeds refer to William and each of his brothers as "of Lanesborough". A William Rubelee was living in Lanesborough in 1790, but this was almost certainly William Sr., who died in 1792. William Jr. was perhaps living with his father, or a brother in New Haven, VT. By 1800, William Rublee appears in the census in Lanesborough. The family configuration was 1 male 26-45 (William, age 35); 1 male 16-25 (Erastus??, age 21); 3 males under 10 (Rolli, William and Homer); 1 female 26-45 (Lydia); 1 female (16-26 (??); and 1 female under 10 (Polly). William Rubblee's will was probated in Pittsfield Co., MA on 5 May 1808. His widow Lydia was administrator. At the time of his death, he owned one divided half of sixteen acres in Lanesborough (part of Lot #29 of the 2nd division). His home farm was 64 acres, and included a house, barn and cider mill. In addition, he owned another small home on the "highway". Lydia Rubblee was appointed guardian of their children William, Homer Phelps, Lucy and Sally. Asahel Smith, of Lanesborough, was appointed guardian of Rolli Rubblee. When the estate was settled, land was distributed to Lydia, their children, and to Francis Rublee (presumably the Francis who was Willam's brother). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Wife: Lydia P. _____ died at age: 68 Married: est 1792 in his age: 26 her age: 17 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Born: abt 1775 in 3 Died: 4 Jan 1843 in Lanesborough, Berkshire, MA 3,4 Father: Mother: Perhaps Lydia's surname was Phelps? The Ellington Sesquicentenniel 1824-1974: History of Ellington, NY (Ellington, no imprint, 1974) includes a story about Rolli and his wife's travel to Ellington from Pittsfield, MA in 1822. He is said to have turned a four-legged table into a temporary pen for his pig, by nailing slots around it and making a temporary bottom for it. He tied his cow to the back of his wagon; it provided milk for his family and the pig, during the journey. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- F Child 2: Polly Rubblee died at age: 12 Born: 6 Jun 1795 in New Haven, Addison, VT? 1 Died: 12 Jun 1807 in Lanesborough, Berkshire, MA 3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- M Child 3: William Rubblee died at age: 42 Born: 30 Sep 1797 in Lanesborough, Berkshire, MA? 1 Died: 10 May 1840 in Lanesborough, Berkshire, MA 3 Headline: [William Rublee; Lanesborough; Tuesday; Saturday; Coroner's Inquest]; Paper: The Pittsfield Sun.; Date: 1840-05-14; Vol: XL; Iss: 2069; Page: [3]; "A man named William Rublee, of Lanesborough, was found dead in the woods, on Tuesday morning, with an empty bottle near him, and one cent in his pocket. 3. Welcome to the list, Lee. First, regarding the shoe company. The Brown Shoe Company was started by George Warren Brown, b. 21 Mar 1853 in Granville, Washington, NY?. He was the son of David and Malinda (Roblee) Brown of Granville, NY. He married 7 Apr 1885 Betty Bofinger, d. Jul 1934 in St. Louis, MO, bur: in Bellfontaine, St. Louis, MO. George died 13 Dec 1921 in Tucson, AZ, bur: in Bellfontaine, St. Louis, MO. George Brown was the founder of the Brown Shoe Co. in St. Louis, MO. He tried to get his brother Alanson to join him, to no avail. (Alanson was also in the shoe business -- his company was Hamilton and Brown, also in St. Louis.) Several of his Roblee cousins and nephews did, however. In his will, Mr. Brown left 50 shares of company stock to the Truthville (now Bethany) cemetery in Granville, for upkeep of that cemetery and 50 shares to the Elmwood cemetery in Middle Granville where his brother Charles was buried, as well as his grandparents Thomas and Laura Roblee (Source: Eleanor McCain). The Roblee shoe was a line of shoe made by the Brown Shoe Co. So, the Brown Shoe company was not started by 4 brothers named Roblee -- but it was started by the son of a Roblee woman, and several Roblees ended up working there. Your Leland Roblee was not connected to the shoe line, not directly anyhow. Your line is: Descendants of: Reuben Robblee 1 Reuben Robblee b. bef 26 Mar 1738 Huntington, Long Island, NY? d. 22 Sep 1795 Granville, Washington, NY (prob) m. Phebe Austin m. 5 Sep 1759 S. I am always interested to hear the traditions that come down in family lines. (France, Robleja, etc.). The bottom line is that we have not been able to ascertain our origins. The earliest information is about the Rublier family of Huntinton, Long Island. 1. Alfred, son of Dan and Betsy (Ewins) Rublee
    2. Alger and Walcott Family
    3. Alfred was born about 1827-28, probably in Franklin, Franklin, VT. In 1850, Alfred was living with his parents in Franklin, VT, unmarried at age 33 (1850 VT census, Franklin). There is no further record of him in Vermont. I cannot find him in the 1860 census. Here is the new find: Alfred "Ruble", age 42, born in Vermont was a stockraiser living East Bear River, Yuba, CA in 1870. He was living with A. and Lydia Parker, both born in New York. A. Parker was a farmer, and it appears that Alfred was his employee. In 1880, he was living in Richland, Sacramento, CA when he is listed as a stockraiser in McKenney's Pacific Coast Directory 1880-81. Richland was a post office on the river, near Sacramento. (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~npmelton/pacdirsc.htm) I cannot find him in 1900 or 1910. Cindy Walcott

    3. Found her! One of the genealogical serendipities. A fellow list member on the Eastern Townships list posted records for Jay, VT.
