Hi all I have a bomb shell for you. I have a partial letter - of course not dated, written by Julia Cora May Duke, my spinster great aunt- Hannah Belle Robblee Duke's daughter. She was born April 21, 1908. In the letter she is talking about how her brother Clarke Wallace Duke was the only one whose given names were not family names " ...and my name for instance Julia (Jule Warman- Will Warman's wife - she was Julia Summers (Cora) Uncle Tom Robblee's second wife - he was married 3 times." I have in my records that Thomas Heckford Robblee was born October 14, 1872 in Buctouche, Kent County, New Brunswick. His first wife's name at present is unknown and I have no idea if there were any children. The second wife was Cora Summers - again no details yet, and his third wife was Stella Kinniar (sp?) both died at age 96 at Nursing home in Pictou, Nova Scotia. Have fun with this one! Debby
I have a copy of information sent to my mother September 29, 1981 from George H. Clark of North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA. "Dear Mrs. Bulmer, I was given your name by Mr. James Robblee of Moncton. One of the family lines that I am working on is the Robblee family as my grandmother was Jane P. Robblee born about 1842 & died in 1906 in Tryon, PEI. She was the daughter of Thomas Robblee (1802-1852) lost at sea & Sarah Hall (1813-1881). Jane married Charles Wesley Clark (1839-1916) on 29 July, 1862. Do you know who Thomas Robblee's parents were? At the Newberry Library in Chicago we found the book "Genealogy and History of the Chute Family in America" Vol.1 by W.E. Chute. In the book we found the following: 1. Avard Milton Roblee born May 24, 1865 2. Oscar William Roblee Born April 29, 1877 3. Rena Roblee born Sept 29, 1879 4. Hattie May Roblee born Dec 15, 1882 5. Mertie W. Roblee born Dec 31, 1884 6. Watson D. Roblee born Feb 21, 1888 Do any of these names appear in your family? There was an Annabelle Caroline Chute born Feb 06, 1852 who married Stephen H. Roblee, son of Joseph Roblee, on Jan 29, 1874. Joseph Roblee and Stephen lived in Lower Granville, Nova Scotia. Mr. Robblee said your grandmother's name was Hannabelle. Annabelle's father was Robert Chute who was born in Clements, Annapolis Co., Nova Scotia & her mother was Elizabeth Everett. Robert Chute was born Dec 15, 1820 and died Sept 30, 1882...." Debby
Note written Feb 1978 to my mother Hazel Hannah Belle (Duke) Bulmer from Julia Duke "...the following are your great grand-parent's children May Redmond Geo. Robblee Jane Robblee (spinster) Irvine Robblee ( bachelor) Matilda (Tillie) McDonald Thomas (Heck) Robblee Hannah Belle (J.W.) Duke Mabel Baldwin There were no males to carry on the Robblee name in their immediate family..." partial letter to my mother Belle Duke Bulmer from Jilia Duke, June 27, 1980 "...Heard from Hazel Miller. Quote from her letter! ""My mother told me there were Lords and Ladies in England from the Robblee family. There was a Fortune and our grandfather's brother and his eldest son went to England to claim it and were drowned in a shipwreck. Our grandfather Jonathan Robblee was next in line & was to go & claim it & take Uncle George but Grandma said she didn't want them to take the chance - that all the money in England wasn't enough to loose them."" When I was growing up we all heard about the Price fortune. Baltimore is suppose to be built up with the Price fortune - there are Prices in Quebec who are wealthy- the boys used to come to the dental office where the patients were all upper crust - I worked with their dentist - 11 years - the Price boys looked like Wallace - good looking, tall...."
Here is a section from a letter dated April 14, 1977 to Julia Duke (grand-daughter of Sarah Jane Price Robblee- parents were Hannah Belle Robblee and John W. Duke) from her 1st cousin Hazel Redmond Miller (grand-daughter of Sarah Jane Price Robblee - her parents were John Redmond and May Robblee ...Hannah Belle and May were sisters.) "...I was glad to learn that our grandfather's real name was Johnathan, I had only heard the name John used. He was born in Prince Edward Island off of the Canadian East Coast. Grandma's name was Sarah Price. I'm not sure where she was born. I know that my mother was born in Buctouche, New Brunswick and they later moved to Moncton. Our grandfather was a railway worker but not sure what, I think he was an inspector on cars. Helen ( Hazel's sister) heard that originally the Robblees were French Huguenots and driven from France during the religious war and went to England. Mama said some of her relatives were from Devonshire and some from Lankershire (sp?). She said there were Lords and Ladies and her uncle and his oldest son went to England to claim a fortune and were drowned on the way over and another fortune was tied up in the state of Virginia that was on grandma's side. Our grandfather and Uncle George at one time planned to try to get to England but all the papers were lost.....I don't believe that our own grandmother came from Virginia. There was some connection, her grandmother Sarah Hanks was a sister of Nancy Hanks that was Abraham Lincoln's mother. There was some relationship with Mathew Cushing who was suppose to have been one of the passengers that came over in that early ship called the Mayflower and settled in Hingham, Massachusetts. There is a Mathew & Jane Cushing, descende! nts living there now and Helen corresponds with her. I don't remember that mother ever spoke of any relatives on her father's side of the family. She left Canada when she was 16 to learn to be a dressmaker and went to live with someone in Boston and met my father at the boarding house where she lived...." Debby
Hello Cousins, I am currently going through a box of letters, pictures, etc. They once belonged to Julia Duke (1908-1985), daughter of Hanna Belle Robblee Duke Warman and some of Sally Robblee Voight ( Died 1971) daughter of George Robblee..son of Sarah Jane Price Robblee. Unfortunately they are all combined in the one box. I have a partial letter written by Helen Redmond Easler daughter of May Robblee and John Redmond. There is no date on the letter nor to whom it is addressed, and part of this delicate paper is ripped away. " ...I think it would be nicer for you and Grace to write yourselves to Mrs. Margaret B. King, Sussex, Kings County, N.B. She is Secretary of the whole thing. That bunch of the family trace their ancestry back to Edmund Price born in N.Y. June 14, 1757. He married Jane Webb, daughter of George and Jerusha Webb of Woodbridge, N. Jersey. I have a copy of the will of Edmund Price and his children were George Webb Price, Allen Price, James Price, Edmund John, Dennis and the daughters Jane, Phoebe, Mary, Elizabeth, Deborah and Jerusha. Mama wrote me that our grandmother, Sarah Cushing was born in Hingham, a descendant of Mathew Cushing who came over in the Mayflower. Papa once had a list of all the names from Mathew Cushing down to Sarah Cushing. They can be obtained in the Hingham records as Papa got them there. Sarah Cushing married William Price of N.Y. and they went to Sussex, N.B. to live. Both died in their 86th year. Sarah Cushing's Aunt Nancy was Abraham Lincoln! 's mother. Mama says that her own uncle William Price was the dead image pf Abraham Lincoln. I think your father can tell you more. Why don't you go down to Hingham and get a copy of everything and then you can get the records of Grandma Robblee and your father and will have a dear ( or clear- can't make out the writing) chance to join the Mayflower Club and perhaps the D. O. R. ( or D. A. I....again can't make out). You would enjoy those things here. When you write to Mrs. King give her any information you can. I have an idea this Edmund Price, who married Jane Webb, was a brother to William Price who married Sarah Cushing, Well, I must quit writing as I have just got my bread out of the oven and now must get dishes done before the water gets cold. Give my love to all the folks there and to the folks in N.Y. when you write. Love Helen and Hollis" Hope this is of use to someone! .partial letter - no date but written by Julia Duke " J.W.Duke Hannah Belle Robblee Clarke Wallace Duke Almedia Mabel Duke Thomas Irvine Duke Julia Cora May Duke Jennie Kathleen Duke Maude Mildred Duke So you know your mother's family. So we have many relatives. I do not know how many Prices - my grandmother was Sarah, she had a sister Betsy & one married to a Wallace. We must be related to people in Moncton we do not know. It would be fun to find out. Have you located my mother's picture yet- the one with me when I was 12 or 13 it was real good. She wore glasses & a plush hat. I had on one too. Love Julia" an old typed paper ..no date. " Near Relatives of Abe Lincoln Several Moncton Women Cousins of The Former United States President The Boston Globe of Recent date contained the following paragraph:- Miss Mabel Redmond of Clinton Mass., residing at Leighton Avenue and a student of South Lancaster Academy is, it was learned to-day a distant relative of Abraham Lincoln. Miss Redmond's great grandmother whose name was Price was a sister to Nancy Hanks the mother of Abe Lincoln. Mrs. Sarah Price Robblee is the grandmother of Miss Mabel Redmond who is a bright studious girl, standing high in her classes is a favorite among the students in the Academy. Mrs. Sarah Price Robblee referred to in Boston Globe paragraph resides with her daughter Mrs. John W. Duke, Dominion Street this city. She has lived in Moncton nearly all her life, being the relict of the late Jonathan Robblee a former well known I.C.R. employee. Mrs. Robblee's maiden name was Price and she is the sister of the late Tyler Price who spent a greater part of his life in the city and parish of Moncton. Mrs. Sarah Robblee has two sisters living in Moncton Mrs. Thomas Mitton and Mrs. Henry Wallace both of whom reside on High Street. The mother of the Moncton woman referred to was a sister to Nancy Hanks, Abe Lincoln's mother, which would make Mrs. Robblee and her brothers and sisters first cousins of the distinguished dead president of the United States whose birthday anniversary was recently celebrated by the republic. Miss Mabel Redmond referred to in the Boston Globe is a daughter of John Redmond a former Provincialist who is married to one of Mrs. Robbleee's daughters. Besides Mrs. John Duke of this city, Mrs. Robblee has another married daughter Mrs. George McDonald residing in Lewisville. Her sons George, Irving and Thomas live in different parts of the United States. ****" Debby
Bob, I am related to Horace Rublee and Katharine Rublee of Milwauke Wis. Horace's grandfather was Hiram Rublee from VT. I am not sure about the Robblees, are they related to this branch? I am related to Bergetta Monroe (3rd cousins) and she is the one that gave me your Robblee web site. If you want to know any more about us,let us know. Debby
Good Morning, All, Welcome, Debby, to the Roblee List. Have any of my emails gotten through to you? I have quite an extensive file on Jonathan and Sarah Robblee's family. Hazel, and Helen were strays from the California Records that you have now placed into my files. Sally Robblee was the daughter of a son of their's, George. Doug Robblee, son of Jim and Orpha, is a member of this list. Jim was the son of David H. Robblee, who was a son of Alexander L. Robblee, who is my ggrandfather. David was the son of his first wife, Sarah. I would be happy to share any information I have which will make your search easier. And I hope that when you attack the files in the family basement, that you will let us know your findings. HOpe to hear from you soon. Regards, Bob Robblee

As an individual who subscribes to many genealogy mailings lists, manages 5 of those at Rootsweb, and maintains several web sites, my e-mail address ( doug.detling@greencity.org ) is plastered all over the internet. I get hundreds of messages a day during a busy week--many of them spam. Dick Eastman, who publishes a periodic e-mail newsletter for genealogists, had a recent suggestion for using Google's gmail service as a method of filtering out spam. I have used my gmail e-mail address for some time, and decided to try Dick's suggested approach for managing my messages by having all my e-mail processed through my gmail account. It is working perfectly to reduce spam in my inbox, so I'm going to make this permanent. So, whether you see e-mail sent from doug.detling@gmail.com or doug.detling@greencity.org, it is from me. Replies to me can be sent to either e-mail address (it really doesn't matter which). Doug Detling
Debby Bulmer-Raby, a new subscriber to the Roblee-L list, sent the following message a few days ago, which because of the way it was addressed was sent to the mail server which handles our subscriptions rather than the one handling messages. To ensure everyone gets this and Debby doesn't have to resend it, I am simply forwarding to the list. Welcome, Debby, to our little band of Roblee/Robblee/Rublee (et al.) researchers. Doug Detling Roblee-L list coordinator ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Debby Bulmer-Raby <debby_bulmer_raby@hotmail.com> Date: Jul 28, 2006 5:44 AM Subject: Sally Robblee Voight To: ROBLEE-L-request@rootsweb.com Hello cousins, ...and thank you for your most gracious letters of encouragement as I set off on this mad journey called genealogy! Jonathan Robblee & Sarah Price are GG's grandparents of mine. Mom's Grandma Warman ( Hanna Belle Robblee - John W Duke) lived with them for awhile. They resided at 29 Dominion Street, Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick Canada for several years(- in the 1920's - most of mom's siblings were born here) then later to Broadway Street, Sunny Brae, Moncton. Mom remembers stories about her grandfather Jonathan Robblee riding the white horse down Main Street in the Orangemen's' Parade. She says her grandmother was so proud - as it was a great thing to do back then and very risky with the Catholic/Protestant rivalry. Mom remembers a story of two men coming to the house and on the way out setting the house on fire - mom didn't pay too much attention to the ramblings of an old lady, but now she wishes she'd listened more. My aunt in BC has the sword and cape. Mom also visited elderly cousins Hazel Miller, Helen Esler (sp?) in California and Sally Robblee Voight - I believe they were cousins or siblings who were originally from one of the New England States. Sally had a daughter Jean who was a nurse and a son but was estranged with both at the time of her death in the early 1970's. My parents had to go to Florida to look after her estate and burial. She was cremated and buried with her late husband. Fredrick Carl Voight, CH Gunners Mate USN, Arlington National Cemetery, Section 34, Site 687-A, Arlington, Va., USA. Dob: 7/11/1998- 04/03/1955. Mom has pictures of his gravestone and Sally's cremation urn. Besides boxes of letters, correspondence, pictures and funeral notices and newspaper clippings, mom also inherited Sally's duachound dog Duchess. The boxes areat my parents home in the dreaded basement - I am on holidays next week so maybe I can get up the nerve to attach the spider webs and get into the treasure trove. I remember growing up in Sunny Brae, Moncton , neighbors that were mom's cousins too - James & Orpha Robblee. I believe his family was from PEI. They had three children - I think they were Sandra, Doug and Billy. Debby -- Doug Detling
No, you don't have to post it elsewhere. I have a service that sends me copies of any ancestry query that contains the word Roblee, Rublee, or Robblee. I didn't know you were on our mailing list, so I sent a copy to mailing list members. Glad to have you on board. Bob Robblee, one of our list members, maintains an extensive database on the Canadian Robblees. Good Morning, I have been busy installing a new roof over the last couple of weeks. Email has taken a second seat. I have the family of Jonathan Robblee, married Sarah Price in my files. His birthplace being Tryon will probably change the family alignment I have had up until now. Is there any information on his occupation? I would like to exchange information with you, Debby. Just let me know what I can send. HOpe to hear from you soon. Regards, Bob Robblee
