    1. More Coming
    2. Dear All, Just an update on this morning's note. Harry Robblee from Crapaud, PEI intends to attend and may convince his brother Allison to come as well. He will let the rest of his branch of the family know. I prodded my father, in CA at the moment, to make his reservations now. It seems he had held back making them until I advised him that this is real and a go. I also phoned his older sister, Margaret, and I think she will attend as long as we can arrange one or more travelling companions. A couple of other names have come to mind since this morning and I think we should make a point of contacting them. Phil: Could you contact Connie Roblee and advise her of the details? If you can't, advise me and I will phone her. I will contact Mary [Robblee] Hunter in Calgary and advise her of our plans. A general question comes to mind: Is there any way that we might contact family members that have as yet had no contact with the group but might be interested in attending? Ads in the paper might be one route but it is tough to get the coverage as exists in Nova Scotia where one daily covers an entire area. Could we advise folks if we found them under an email address if there is a directory of such things? Perhaps we should all check our local phone directories for family members, and phone those we do not know, and invite them as well. Just some thoughts to add to this mornings's pile. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Ancient Documents, Dutchess Co. NY
    2. Dear All, Thanks to Lynda for finding this old record to add new information to our continuing search. I don't believe it helps as to establishing any family relationships but it does record Reuben's birth place as Long Island, and it does establish, I believe, that he was there, in Dutchess Co. with his parents and family. At 20, he could be spared from daily living to soldier in the French-Indian Wars of the times. Long have I looked at the list of baptisms from the Huntington First Church, trying to establish families. It should also be added that Andrew remarried Abigail Hawkins on 30 Jul 1733 and papers Joyce looked into showed him at that time a widower. Thomas and John were brothers as stated in Thomas' will. Abigail, baprtized 13 Apr 1729, was the daughter of William and Abigail. I believe I have deduced Thomas's birth date as 4 May 1735 from what is written on his gravestone. This indicates an infant baptism. Does or did the Congregational Church do infant baptisms? This would help narrow the window of birth dates and I realize that it would only be an approximation. Assuming infant baptisms, I doubt Thomas and Andrew were brothers, based on what I term the 2 year spacing of kids in families. [Baby is born, and will nurse up to a year. Father doesn't get much chance to interact with Mother during this time.] The same applies to the possible spacing between Reuben and John. There is also the errant Thomas Robblee, born 1740, died 1808, who might have been part of the Andrew-Reuben family. William could have been part of either family. Hannah, I believe would have been sister to Andrew and Reuben. If we look at the last land sale in the Huntington area just prior to 1740, this might establish which family was still there and John's baptism might indicate to which family he belongs. Although William and Reuben ended up at Lanesborough, they went separate ways after that; which indicates that whatever their relationship, they were not that close at that point in their lives. I see that the grave of Thomas Roblee, Jr. d. 1842 and buried in the Hartford Cem. has been listed again. Oh where, oh where is Dad and how does he fit into this puzzle? All 4 men associated with Dutchess Co. adopted and passed on the double b spelling of Robblee. [William, Thomas, Reuben and John.] Andrew's descendents, I believe, continue the Roblyer spelling. Time will hopefully lead to information on the women and their offspring. Hope this adds to the thoughts for a Sunday PM and HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Sons of Julius
    2. Dear All, As I entered the family of Julius Scott Roblee, I noted the names of 2 of his sons. His first born, William B. and his fifth born, Juluis Nathaniel. Circumstantial again, but it points in a suggested direction. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Tax Record, Dutchess Co. 1765
    2. Dear All, I found this note that Joyce sent to me several years ago as I was trying to downsize my paper pile. The reference is FHL Cat.# 925798. And I quote: " Be it remembered that Catherine Rubeley of South Precink, farmer on this [Date? not listed] spinster & Rubin Rubeley of said prescink, farmer, on this 24th day of June, 1765 in the 5th year of the reign of etc. came before me John Cogan --------, Esq. one of the justices of the peacein Dutchess Co. and in their proper persons acknowledge themselves to be indebted to our Soverieign Lord the King in manners and form following [40 pounds owed]" Also from the same file: "William Rubeley of the South Presink farmer and Elesor Baker of South Precink farmer 17 July 1765 acknowledge to be indebted to Sovereign, etc. William Rubeley 40 Pounds Elesor Baker 20 Pounds" From FHL Cat.# 925799: "William Robblee complains of Josiah Benjamin in custody of the High sherriff of Dutchess Co. said Josiah on 8th Aug 1765 at Poukeepsie made a promisary note and delin? it to William and promised to pay 9 Pounds before 8th day of Aug, etc." I think we need to revisit these records and verify the wordings and spellings. The first record indicates that Reuben Robblee's mother's name might be Catherine. If so, who was her husband? Does the wording of this record indicate that she might have been the wife of a man named Reuben? Or is she perhaps the 3rd wife of Andrew, Bapt. 1736? Her property is being taxed at the same rate as William's, both of which are twice the amount assessed to Elesor Baker. Both records from 1765 use the spelling Rubeley, but by 1768, William's complaint against Josiah Benjamin is spelled Robblee. I wonder what changed that caused this spelling to appear? Did someone learn to read at that point or did someone else come into their lives with that spelling? Or did they know the spelling all along but never insisted or never saw the spellings used in records on their behalf? The first 2 records mention South Precinct. Did people own the property there or were they tenants? If just tenants, this may explain the drive to open new frontiers where freehold land was available. The history of early NY and other parts of the New England States may have an answer to this question. In answer to a previous question from Cindy, I at the present time show Thomas Roblee, Jr. d. 1842, bur. Hartford Cem. as the son Thomas Robblee, 1740-1808 until further information shows up to either confirm or disprove this theory. It explains why Thomas Roblee, married Laura Robblee, dau. of Thomas and Chloe, was known as Thomas, the second. Please let me know your thoughts on these records. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Theory of Origin
    2. Dear All, A theory is formulated in science based on available facts and then extrapolating a framework to possibly fit what is known. An example of this is change of view of the extinction of the dinosaurs during the last 20 years. Up until a geologist found iridiuom in the sediments and could identify them worldwide at the same point in time, various theories speculated as to the cause of dinosaur extinction. His findings were initially embraced two ways by palentologists. Aha, and Nonsense. The geologist stood his ground in the maelstorm as the fact of the iridium in the sedimentary layer sunk in. I believe that the Robleys are part of the family. If the spelling adopted had had one letter changed, that of a y to an e, than it would be easier to accept and search for a tie. Records for them in England appear in the late 1600's at the time Huguenots were being persecuted and driven from France. As the search for solid proof continues and as more and more records are being searched and digitized, further details may be forthcoming. My theory as to origin differs from the 100 year old theory of the possible tie to the family Rapalje. However, other than a name variance and a timing change of the time of arrival, both theories are essentially parallel. Soon, I hope, more data. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Descendents of Nathanael and Phoebe
    2. Dear All, Last week Bill Roblee sent me his descendency from Julius Scott Roblee. And now Marilyn from MI has added information about her search. And now I think I see a possible pattern. In Bill's files, Julius Scott Roblee married Mary Brown, ca 1836 in NY. She was the daughter of Nathaniel Brown and Jerusha Hutchinson and she was born in Kendall, Orleans Co. NY, which I see as the significant bit of information. [Doesn't one of our listmembers have extensive background on the Brown's?] Other Roblees were associcated with Kendall, and if possible, we need to check other documentation there. Julius' second name, may be of some significance, if one of his great grandmother's maiden name was Scott. More to check there. Was Scott a name common to Granville at this time? In notes I received from Jim Fortier, Nathaniel and Phoebe had a son William, born ca 1792, died 30 Oct 1820, buried Mid Granville Cem. Nathaniel, b ca 1761, died 28 Dec 1824, also buried Mid Granville Cem. Is this information verified? Can we check the Cemetary and see if they are there and buried together? I believe that it was Connie Roblee that mentioned that Nathaniel's stone had been replaced? New stone on an old base? If so, then there was family descendency that knew the connection. So here are my thoughts and they are tentative and subject to finding new information. Malintha ????? Roblee McFall's first husband died about 1820. She did not remarry until ca 1827. If William Roblee, son of Nathaniel, was her husband and had died in 1820, there would have been no great pressure to remarry if they had been living and working with Nathaniel and Phoebe. And if William had been an only son, this would have been an easy continuance. However, Nathaniel dies in 1824. If there circumstances had been fairly comfortable, the women, Phoebe and Malintha, might have been able to provide for themselves for a number of years. Julius had an older brother, William Orson, which may indicate a father named William. When I was in Granville this summer at the Roblee Reunion, I noticed that the area is a source for roofing slate. I'm sure that the mining of this material has been in progress from a short time after the area was settled. However, I would think that it is heavy and dangerous work and that young men died in its production. It is an alternative to farming and economic reasons keep people in an area. About 1815-1840, the economy was in recession. Demand for roofing materials would be much lessened. People would retreat to farming and move to areas of new economic hope. And, as we have seen, many of the Roblee family did just that; and Warren Co., Western NY, and Wisconsin seemed to have been the main destinations. Just my thoughts for a Monday AM. Tentatively, I will list Julius as the son of William, son of Nathaniel and Phoebe. And wait for supporting information. Any other thoughts? and HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Gedcoms and Objections
    2. Dear All, A couple of weeks or so ago, I mentioned that we should consider posting gedcoms to the Rootsweb Worldconnect project. The reason I say we, rather than perhaps one of us whom has most of the family on file, is that some of the early ties are rather tentative than proven. And I may not have heard back from all of you who may have objections. As some of you are aware, I prefer to have our family information posted anyplace people may be looking so as to readily enlarge our family tree. I have to make up a new Gedcom based on the additions and corrections that have arrived during the past year. Therefore, I thought to make up one consisting of the descendents of John Robblee, his brother Thomas, and show them as the sons of Andrew Rublier, mentioning, of course that this tie is a guess rather than proven. Rootsweb does not publish information on anyone born within the last hundred years. This should alleviate any concerns about privacy. Control of the gedcom remains with the user. By doing this this way, anyone else could add their information in the form they wish, or not. Or, they could post a separate gedcom to the site, totally under their jurisdiction. This should cover, I believe, any further concerns about this posting. Let me know if there are further concerns. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Another Reuben?
    2. Dear All, I was checking some records Connie Roblee sent me a couple of weeks ago all concerning Reuben Roblee [Some of these are under variant spellings] I see a census record for him in 1830 at Granville, Wa. Co. NY. I would suggest this is Reuben Robblee, Jr. seeing as his son Reuben has already moved to western NY. And now we know that he died after 1830. Probably very soon after the Census, seeing as we have the record that Norman, his son, was raised by his brother, Thomas Roblee, known as "the second". I wonder if there might be a land record showing passage from Reuben to Thomas about this time. Or possibly a probate record. Connie also sent me a record for Reuban Rublee shown to be in Arlington, Bennington, Vt. in 1790, and a Census record from 1800 at the same place for a Reuban Rublee. She also sent a record from Greenville, NY dated 1793, concerning a Reuben. And of course, we have Reuben in Granville, WA. Co. NY in 1790. I would suggest that the record from Greenville suggests the existence of an additional Reuben. The man at Arlington appears to be the same person from 1790-1800. Just how do we think these records fit together? Is the Reuben at Arlington 1790-1800 Reuben Robblee Jr.? Who then moved over to Granville after 1800? Was he possibly at Greenville in 1793? Or was Reuben Robblee Jr. already at Granville in 1790-1800 and this record in Arlington for another man? It almost appears that we have too many records for just one man. And the death record Cindy found for Reuben Rublee in 1861 also indicates that. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Reuben Robblee, Jr. etc.
    2. Dear Cindy and All, Thanks for posting the List of Masons from Granville. I suspect the listing for Reuben Robblee, Jr. is for the son of Reuben and Phoebe, seeing as his son, Reuben, was only 19 at the time. It also proves that Reuben, Jr. was alive in 1818 and in Granville. I have been looking at some early census records that Cindy posted for Vermont. I wonder if the l800 listing for the Reuben in Bennington is for Reuben, Jr. Also, Erastus and Phillip are listed together at Moncton, Addison in 1810. I wonder how close they lived to one another. The John Rubblee, listed 1800 and 1820, does not seem to be John B. Rublee, son of William and Katurah. Both listings for him mention a wife older than himself. Perhaps there is hope to find the family of the Thomas Rubbelee listed at Granville in 1790, yet. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Family of Joseph H. Roblee
    2. Dear All, I have a bit of further information on the family of the son of Joseph and Florence Roblee, Robert Allen Roblee, b 4 Jul 1886-13 Dec 1936. Sources are Milo Resalvo Roblee and Marion Barnard. Robert married Elsie Matlock and they had a daughter, Elizabeth, b 1910. She married John Zuckerman ca 1936. At the time of the birth of their son, Gordon Roblee Zuckerman, b 22 Jul 1938, they were living in Stockton, CA where he was born. Sharon, I, too, show Mary Jane Crew remarrying John H. Rogers, b 11 Feb 1840, Devonshire, England on the 8th Nov 1909 at Summerside, PEI, Can. Reference, PEI Marriage Licence Book. Hope this helps and HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Reunion Details
    2. Dear All, When I arrived home last evening, there was a call on my answering machine from Keith Robblee in N. Wallace, NS. He had seen a note mentioning the reunion in Vermont in the Halifax paper. He contacted Foster Roblee, whom had put the note in the paper, got the reservation details and phoned to see if I had any further informataion. He will make every attempt to come depending on whether or not he can get away at that time because of farming concerns. Foster, whom I haven't met, will be attending as well, I believe, with his family. There are some others I have as yet to contact that I have spoken with before whom are not part of our email group. Allison and Harry Robblee in Crapaud, PEI, Ralph W. Roblee in San Diego, CA, Robert Roblee in the Seattle area. I will phone Allison and Harry and notify them. Is anyone handy in the Southern CA area that could contact Ralph? And, Mary Ann, I believe you have been in contact with Robert Roblee previously. Could you contact him and let him know? Doug, I wondered about having our Reunion Date, etc. posted on Rootsweb where I believe there is a site to post this. Do you as the listholder have to do this or can I, as a member, post a note to this effect on the reunion page? Lastly, I am wondering, because I was asked this morning, as to whether or not we have made any further decisions as to the place and structure of the event on Saturday, July 8? Now that it appears that the attendence is approaching 100 or so, perhaps it is time to set up a shedule. Just some thoughts for a Tuesday AM. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Land Records
    2. Hello All, The notes about Reuben Roblee, d 1861 in Vt. are of interest. About 1850, the son of Reuben Roblee and Mary Evarts, Norman returned to Granville to build a Stone house. Prior to that, I believe he had been in the Kendall, NY area. And we have fairly specific times as to where he lived thereafter. Did he take over the family farm? His father would have been in his mid-seventies? at this time. Land records will tell us more about this and we may have better information as to why Reuben was in Vt. and his wife, Mary was in WI. Or is there another Reuben whose lineage we are unaware? We still have to establish the family of Thomas Roblee, Jr. If Norman took over the family farm under fiscal uncertainty, there could have been a family split at this time. Did the Reuben Rublee, d 1861, VT. leave a will? Perhaps he had nothing to pass down, but having a date of death should make it fairly easy to find, if there is one. Did Mary Roblee, d 1864? WI. leave a will? Land records should establish who owned what and where and when. And the proximity of various parties to each other. Just my thoughts for a Saturday AM. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Edward of Pottersville
    2. Dear Jean, and All, I'm curious about Edward, and you mention a surviving sister. Both were the children of George? And would she know who George's father was? Perhaps then we could add this branch to the expanding tree. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Many Reubens
    2. Dear Cindy and All, I think the death record that you found for Reuben Rublee, d 1861 in Hinesburg, Vt. is of extreme interest. If he died at 87, giving a dob of 1773/74, he cannot be the son of Reuben and Phoebe. Their son, Reuben, married Mary Evarts, was baptized in Lanesboro in 1770. Going back to Norman, married Henrietta Soule, I think Carpenter mentioned that he had been raised by his brother, Thomas II, married Laura Robblee, because his parents had died. It now looks like only his father, Reuben, married Mary Evarts, died when he was young and that would have to have been ca 1820-25. If Norman had been much older than 14 years of age, he would have probably been on his own or placed out to work. I think that we are now one step closer to establishing the family of the mysterious Thomas Rubbelee, enumerated in Granville, NY in 1790. One headache that always continues is the use of the same given names by differnt families. Also, the Thomas Rubbelee mentioned above, is gone from the Granville area by the time of the 1800 Census. Perhaps it was his family that established themselves in the Hinesburg area and we may have to realign our previous thoughts on these two family structures. Hopefully, again, land or probate records may add further information to help straighten this out. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. The Gedcom
    2. Dear All, I'll get started on the submission. It will help me update sources and I will check to make sure that dates of birth are included. I have been recently going over most of my files as I re-check information to make sure I have included all the pertinent information. [Trying to reduce the mountain of paper around here] I will advise when I have sent the Gedcom. Bob

    1. Notification
    2. Dear All, Glad to see that we are proceeding forward with Reunion plans. I would like to mention some details. All of us should notify others whom we have contacted over the years as we climbed the family tree and who are not part of this email group, that this event is about to happen. And invite them to join us. Doug; Rootsweb has a board, I believe, to announce reunions. Can we have ours listed there as well? Lois, is there a way to find out the hours of the archives in Bennington? I would like to have a day to plow through their papers. For those of us who don't need reservations, let Lois know that you plan to attend. Numbers are handy when arranging details. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob

    1. Train Stop
    2. Hi All, I hope that all of you enjoyed a festive Xmas and are looking forward to the best in the New Year. Just a note to update the information about trains. Ann Yarnell let me know that Via Rail still stops in Amherst, which is the closest point to John's home in Hansford. And I asked John to check accomodations there as well as ask if any would be interested having all of us there. I hope that all is well with you and yours and that Xmas was a joyous time for all. HOpe to hear from you soon. Bob
