    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: DavidSchimka Surnames: Robinson Thompson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.robinson/8791.2.1.1.1.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The earliest Thompson individual that I have been able to verify in my ancestry is Thomas T Thompson. A record of his marriage exists but what I have is a transcription from a book as follows: Marriages of Orange County, Virginia, 1747-1810 , Knorr, Catherine Lindsay, (Knorr, Catherine Lindsay), 0-89308-252-x., 89. Thomas Thompson & Frances Robinson, d/o Francis Robinson who consents. 7 Nov. 1809. Surety: Reubin Terrell. Witness: William Terrell. Married 9 Nov. by Rev. Jeremiah Chandler. P. 76. The page number at the end of the citation is a reference to the author's original source (that source is not given in the book). Additional Thompson marriages are listed in this book but relationships, if any, to Thomas Thompson are thus far unclear. At the time of this post, the other Thompson marriages are listed in the notes section of Thomas Thompson's individual page on my personal web site: http://tree.schimka.com/getperson.php?personID=I774&tree=schimka#cite1 According to research by members of DAR, Thomas was born in Prince William County, VA. As you can see from the book citation above, he was married in Orange County, VA. Between the Revolutionary War pension file of Francis Robinson and the Stringtown History, the families of Francis Robinson and his daughter, Frances Robinson, and son-in-law, Thomas T Thompson, can be traced from Virginia to Harrison County, KY. In 1810 Franics Robinson was living in Fairfax County, VA. They moved first to Boone County, KY in 1817 and then in November of 1818 they moved to Harrison County, KY. To make a long story even longer, I suppose it is possible that George Thompson and Thomas Thompson were related somehow. I haven't been able to locate, with confidence any brothers or sisters of Thomas or reference to his parents so I don't have much to go on. Thomas did name one of his sons George. Thomas' birth in 1787 opens the possibility of your "George Thompson" ancestor to be a father and maybe even a much older brother. I can't help but notice how far Pittsylvania and Halifax Counties are from Orange, Spottsylvania, Stafford and Prince William counties though. Do you know anything of the parentage of the George Thompson you have in your ancestry? Did George have parents who lived closer to the Spottsylvania County area? One potenial clue that some researchers may want to look into is the Reverend Jeremiah Chandler. He was born in Caroline County, VA in 1749. He later moved to Orange County, VA and was the minster for the North Pamunky Church and simultaneously was minister for the Piney Branch Church in Spotsylvania County, VA. Jeremiah Chandler was the minister of both churches for about forty years. If church documents exist and have been microfilmed or are otherwise available then there is likely to be a wealth of information about the Robinson and Thompson families in the records of the churches of Jeremiah Chandler.
