I really appreciate any info that you can forward. The information from Goodbody family stories I have is that Frank(1828-1906) and Richard(1821-1850) split up from the train, where I do not know, and made their way to Mazatlan. The story is that they took the Barque "Guaymas" from there to San Francisco. Richard died a "few days out of SF". His death date is given as 3 December, 1850. Frank (Francis Alexander) made his way to Downieville and worked a mine called "Whiskey Diggins". He returned to Illinois in the Fall of 1852, winter 1853.(See Huntoon letter,http://history.wilmettelibrary.info/2294767/data) Frank married Catherine Jane Delanty, bought her father's tavern in Waukegan. He then, along with his sons, including my Grandfather, (Richard, 1862-1920), headed south to San Antonio and then westward building railroad bridges and tunnels. Eventually, the family ended up in San Diego in the 1880's. Possibilities, since I can find no record after Uvalde, Tx, in Miles, Leona Station (later Fort Inge) my hypothesis is that they left then per Miles ("26th-Got to Leona Station;20 people left the train for Mazatlan")(14). I have no direct evidence however, but the fact that they are not mentioned again is interesting. I am finding it fascinating to trace the story. I am the youngest of 7 so I am trying to pull out of my older brothers any other info they may have heard through family stories. Again, thanks for any information that you can pass along.
