"Henry LaFayette Robinson’s father was Thomas Jefferson Robinson. Henry came to Texas with his family in the latter part of 1869 from Jonesborough, Georgia. They came to Memphis, Tenn. Where they boarded a steamship on the Mississippi river for Jefferson, Texas. On their way down the Mississippi river the boat ran onto a sand bar and a smoke stack blew up and the boat sank. Part of the smoke stack landed on Henry Lafayette’s arm and some quick work on the part of some of the men rescued him. Two of the younger children, William and Charles drowned. This occurred on a Sunday. The family camped on the river bank overnight because they could not buy a wagon or team on Sunday. Early the next morning the eldest daughter, Angeline walked down to the river and saw one of the boys body in the water. She went back to camp to get the men, but when they returned his body had washed away. Neither boys body was ever recovered. After this sad experience grandfat! her or Thomas Jefferson Robinson bought a wagon and a team and came the balance of the way by land as there was no other means of transportation west of the Mississippi at that time. After arriving in Cass county, Texas late in 1869 and living there until 1872 he homesteaded 160 acres of land in the north side of Cass county, Texas."
