He died at Alton, Ill on July 3, 1863 in a northern military prison during Civil War times. He and his troop were captured in Arkansas . He was traveling as a citizen with a southern Confederate troop acting as a blacksmith. About four months later he died due to Tyfoid Fever. His widow, wife #2, Mary Ann (McElroy) and he married in Pulaski County, Missouri. Mary Ann and Zephaniah later lived in Laclede County, Missouri. They had six children. Their oldest child, Elizabeth Catherine Robinson, married Jacob Andrew Fogerson in Laclede County Missouri. They are my Great-grandparents. (Zephaniah's wife # 1 was Rebecca Aikin who died leaving four children). I hope some of my cousins will wish to correspond. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
