The Robinson list and my ISP don't get along so I will probably be unsubscribed by the rootsweb server in a day so but while I can, let me update everyone on the DNA project. I looked through the archives and was happy to see some DNA discussion. There are several companies providing DNA testing and several of those were listed in a recent post to this list. My preference is FTDNA for that is where our project is based and its easier for me to get the results from them. I do have several members of the projects I administrate who tested with DNA Heritage. They are a little cheaper and are a good company. I am able to convert their results to post them to our DNA results page. However, FTDNA and DNAH do not test the same markers. There are five tested by FTDNA that are not tested by DNAH and there are nine tested by DNAH that FTDNA doesn't use. I have to "throw out" those 14 markers and we can compare on 32. I am aware of at least one instance in our Drake project where the DNAH result (using the 32 markers we can compare) resulted in a false positive. We had a DNAH donor from England who matched on 31 out the 32 common markers with a New Jersey group of Drakes, which excited everyone. Then, we received a FTDNA result from a donor who was of the same line as the DNAH donor. He only matched on 2 of the five FTDNA markers not used by DNAH. So . . . the 31/32 went to a 32/37 meaning no common ancestor after 1000AD. Had both donors used DNAH, we might have gotten the same result. I would prefer you use FTDNA, just 'cause its easier on me ;-). However, no matter which company you use, please send me your results. Make sure you give me the name of the testing company, the designation for each marker (i.e. DYS 390) and the marker values. I should be able to convert to FTDNA's format with no problem. Also, please let me know the name and vitals of the donor's Earliest Known Ancestor (EKA) so we can post that on our results page as well. I just posted our first 67 marker result for Kit#40302, EKA, Corneleous Robbinson (m. abt 1700) of Hamsterley. My Robinson EKA is George Robinson of New Garden, Russell County, VA. I believe him to be second son of Samuel Robinson, Sr. Esq. of Elk Garden , RCV. The GR donor is 36/37 match with the SR donor. There is also a perfect 37/37 match between Samuel Robinson, Sr. and Herman Robinson, b. 1891 of Grady Co., OK. I will post the OK Robinson info in another email. Thanks Don -- Donald E.
