He was a kind, courtly gentle man who will be deeply missed by family and friends. Harvey was born and raised in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, received his B.A. Cum Laude from Harvard University, and subsequently attended the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He spent most of his professional career in New York City, first with McCann-Erickson and later as Vice President of Grey Advertising. His private sector clients included British Airways, Buick, Celanese, Coca Cola, General Electric, Minute Maid, Northeast Utilities, and Time-Life Books. In the public sector he worked with the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Navy, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the U.S. Departments of Energy, Justice, and the Treasury. Harvey also served as a member of the White House Conference on Youth, a director of the Massachusetts Family Service Association, and an advisor to the Massachusetts YMCA and the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Berkshire Music Festival. After he and his wife moved to Sonoma in 1989, he was active for several years in public information activities for Sonoma Valley Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Patricia O'Connell, his son Eric of Düsseldorf, Germany, and his brother Abbott of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. At his request, no formal services will be held.
