Therfield is about three miles from Lizzie's birthplace (Royston, Hertfordshire) so it makes quite a bit of sense. There is also another clue in the 1901 census in that Edwin has a brother Reginald F Robinson who was born c.1864 also at Therfield. >From the 1871 census it looks like Edwin's parents were named Edward and Ellen and were born around 1830. In any case it looks like the Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire borderlands rather than Islington are where you will have to look to get back any further.
