The following obituary was in the Southern Christian Advocate (found at Wofford College). Southern Christian Advocate, 26 Sep 1851 Died in Vineville, Ga. On the 31st August, Adam Robinson, father of the Rev. J. H. Robinson of the S. C. Conf., in the 70th year of his age. He was born in Fairfield Dist., where about 1794, he was married to Mary Austin. At an early age he became the subject of saving grace and joined the Presbyterian Church from which he took a letter bearing date 9th March, 1807, stating that he was a Ruling Elder in the Church. The same year he removed to Ga. where, shortly after, he united with M. E. Church, and remained a pious, humble member of it till his death. Few men of such retiring habits and modest pretensions have exerted as great an influence for religion as he. Upright in all his dealings, simple in his manners, punctual in his duties, he carried a moral weight of character which told for good wherever he was known. His last prayer was for grace to sustain him in the conflict with death which he felt to be approaching; and in answer to his petition he was permitted to pass f! rom life without a cloud to dim its close. W. R. Foote. I found an 1850 census record in Bibb Co, GA. A Robinson, 77, b. SC Rebecca Robinson, 65, b. SC The age does not agree with what is in the obit, but a birth date in the early 1770s is more in keeping with land grants in 1795 and 1800 which I found for Adam in Fairfield Co, SC. There is a marriage record for Adam Robinson and Rebecca Gardner in Jones Co for 24 Jan 1821. That's where Adam was living when he signed a Fairfield Co deed in 1811 (I think, I don't have the info in front of me right now.) Wofford College also has a John H Robinson in its obituary index and I just requested a copy. The date of death was 13 July 1772, he was a member of the clergy and his father was Adam. There was a J H Robinson, 68, a Minister of the Gospel, (with Isabella S Robinson, 58) in Oglethorpe, Macon, GA in 1870 who I think was Adam and Mary's son, but I'm waiting for the obituary to be certain. Can anyone tell me anything about these people? I'm just collecting information about Robinsons from Fairfield Co. I know Adam disappeared into Georgia, but have no further information. Thanks, Karol I'm posting this to Fairfield Co, too. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
