    1. [ROBINSON] Luke Robinsons NC SC GA and figuring out who is whom
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: revdianie Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.robinson/9584/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Does anyone have information on Luke's sons Thomas and Jeptha Robinson? Does anyone have info on a Luke Robinson who would be father or uncle to this Luke Robinson? If anyone has any further information on this family, we have a small group of researchers who are related to this branch working on the conundrum of having several Lukes and several Johns, and unknown exactly who child of which wife of Luke. We would be much interested in corresponding. ALSO our Luke matches very closely in DNA to the descendants of Rev Manoah Dixon Robinson of SC. If anyone knows how Luke and M. D. Robinson may be related we would be very interested in finding out. OUR line's FIRST KNOWN GENERATION, EKA Luke Robinson: 1. Luke ROBINSON was born about 1738, (probably in Va.) He was ordered to pay a fine between 1757 and 1759 in Lunenberg County, Virginia. He wed on 16 January 1770 in Anson County, North Carolina. [1] He served in the military on 1 May 1771 in Montgomery County, North Carolina. [2] He was involved in signing a petition in 1787/88 in Marlboro County, South Carolina. He signed a will on 7 September 1812 in Bennettsville, Marlboro County, South Carolina.[4] He died about 1812 in Marlboro County, South Carolina.[3] He was married to Christian USSERY (daughter of William Thomas USSERY and Sarah BAYES) unknown dates. Christian USSERY died between 1781 and 1783 (sic - I believe she probably died earlier, perhaps 1775ish DW) in Richmond County or Montgomery County, North Carolina. He was married to Obedience LEGGETT ADAMS (unknown exact date as of yet DW) in NC. Luke ROBINSON and Christian USSERY had the following children: 2 i. John ROBINSON (born on 6 May 1756). (presumed son, could be another family relation, perhaps brother, nephew, cousin of Luke? -DW) 3 ii. William ROBINSON was born about 1755-1760 in North Carolina. (presumed son, could be another family relation, perhaps brother, nephew, cousin of Luke? -DW) 4 iii. Christian ROBINSON (born about 1775). This dau. was probably named after Luke's deceased 1st wife. (also, note the 20 year time difference in the first two "sons" births and this daughter Christian.) How do we know who is actually a child of Christian and who is not? It seems any of Luke's children born before Obedience Adams husband died (abt 1773?) would be candidate to be child of Christian. That means any of Luke's children born before 1772 would be eligible to be Christian's. According to some census records there might have been up to two more children of Luke and Christian who are not verified/continued in later census records. I believe this Christian is first child of Obedience & Luke Robinson. Thoughts: UNLESS the 1790NC census report of 3 young boys in the house, means that the first two boys included in that count were not his sons but his brothers, nephews, or other kin. This would explain why there are marriage records for 1770 for Luke, presumably to Christian, and yet two Robinson males in the household born in 1850s were assumed to be children of Christian. POSSIBLE: It could be that the 1770 marriage listed was actually to Obedience. That would make more sense to me. Except that she had children born in 1772 in NC with her former husband William Adams. Ok, so strike that and back to original idea. Luke married Christian in 1770 NC, and the two Robinson boys listed as his sons are possibly really some other kin to him. But what..? And that means that Luke and Christian really had no children at all together who survived past 1790 or so? Luke ROBINSON and Obedience LEGGETT ADAMS had the following children: 5 iv. Leggett ROBINSON (born in 1779). Named after Obedience's 2nd wifes maiden name. Also, Obedience had children with her previous husband up to 1772 and then stopped. Unknown when exactly her husband William Adams died. This seems to be reason enough to claim Legget's parentage is from mother Obedience. (unless unlikely instance that Luke&Christian had stronger family ties with Leggett family previous to Luke's marriage to Obedience and he was named in honor of that relationship.) Family was in 1790 census in North Carolina with 3 boys under age of 16, six girls and 16 slaves. Boys could be Leggett & Thomas & who else? (Obedience's boys would really be too old to count as under 16.) Girls would be Christian, Obedience sr & jr,Sally and Mary, and that leaves one empty, maybe Divinity Adams, or some unnamed child (of Christian's perhaps?) who did not live to be acknowledged in later wills. 6 v. Thomas ROBINSON. 7 vi. Obedience ROBINSON. Lukes will says the married name of this dau is Gibson. 8 vii. Sally ROBINSON. Lukes will says the last name of these two married dau is Ussery. 9 viii. Mary ROBINSON. Lukes will says the last name of these two married dau is Ussery. 10 i. Samuel ROBINSON. b1789 in Marlboro Co SC, d 1858 Fayette Co GA w Mary McElroy (sister to Susan McElroy Stokes.) 11 ii. Jepthah ROBINSON . *According to the will of Luke, there were also at least three known and beloved step "children": William, John, and Shockley Adams, children of Obedience Adams and her former husband. Obedience Leggett was born 1742 in Bladen Co NC to William Leggett & Patience Sherrod. She was married abt 1740 to William Adams (Richard Adams & Annie Shockley), and had children William M. b18 Jan 1764 in Anson(now Richmond)Co NC, John b1767, Shockley b 1770, and Divinity Adams b 1772 m James Gibson.
