David, 1. Look for a will for their father, I suppose you have already done that. 2. Look for obituaries for the father, mother and brothers, one of them might mention the sisters having been deceased already, or married, or where they currently live. 3. Search the 1860 Fountain Co. IN and/or Marion Co. IA census for any and all Margaret's and Frances'. Put in the fields the state they were born in (if known) and the year of birth with a 2 to 5 year span. Did any of these ladies (that show up in the search) name their children family names? live in the same township as the other Robinsons? is the surname a name that was a neighbor in 1850? etc. best to you in your research Teresa P.S. My Robinsons were in Hamilton County IA by 1865, coming from Indiana (poss. 1830, and 1840), Missouri (1850), Illinois (1860) with the father, George Robinson b. ca 1802 in VA, died ca 1852 (drowned in a river). Even though George was born in VA on the 1850 census, his children all state he was born in Ireland on 1870, 1880, 1900 census records. I suspect it was George's father who was born in Ireland. <snip> After 1850, I cannot find one shred of evidence or info on the two sisters which is conclusive. The only unconfirmed data I have found is either totally coincidental or 100% dead on - in Webster Co., IA, there is a Margaret Robinson who married a Thomas Walton in 1888. If this was "my" Margaret, she would be close to age 53 for this marriage, which could be a second one or even a first, I guess. Then, same Webster Co., IA is a Frances A. Robinson who married a Harry Cragg in 1866. With those marriages, names and dates, you'd think I'd be able to find something. But I have not been able to find any information on these two couples, in any census records, civil war pension docs, etc. Perhaps someone out there can give me some new leads or areas to search. I realize that the two marriages could just be coincidental and that the two sisters could have very well died after 1850. David
Teresa, Thanks for the tops. 1. Yes, I have tried to find a will in Marion Co., Iowa but am told there isn't one. That doesn't mean there isn't as I received the 'no' from a researcher and not the county itself. 2. The parents both died in 1863 and 1865 - not sure about obits back then. I do have obits for the one brother (my 4th gr-grandfather) and there is no mention. I also have Civil War Pension docs for both brothers and no mention of the sisters. 3. I've done this but will try again. Sometimes coming back after several months reveals new things overlooked. I guess the other possibility is that they both died after 1850 and before 1860. David, 4. Forgot to add, look at land records. If the father had land when he died, the kids may have had to sign quit claim deeds before the land could be sold. David, 1.
