The donor can be either male or female, and FF is able to find connections in both maternal and paternal lines, back at least 6 generations, sometimes further. We have several FamilyFinder results from the Robinson and allied families. FamilyTree DNA occasionally offers sales, which are posted on their Facebook page. If you tested with Ancestry or another company, those results can be converted to FamilyTree DNA.
