    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Kcascade Surnames: Robinson, Robertson, Gardner Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.robinson/10215/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I recently discovered the following information: *** Robinson, Seneca Born : About 1839 in Ohio Burial :Unknown Seneca Robinson, a farmer from DuQuoin, Perry Co., IL stood 5' 9" tall with brown hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. He was born in Athens County, Ohio. Served during the Civil War with the Union Army, with Co. I, 6th Illinois Cavalry *** I believe Seneca (born in 1835) to be a brother to my ancestor Rose (born in 1831). Rose's siblings that I'm pretty sure about besides Seneca are Susanna (born in 1833) Catharine (born in 1837) and William (born in 1839). Other siblings I'm not as sure about but seem likely are Isaac (born in 1829 living in Perry County, IL at the same time) and potentially a George H. (Robertson or Robinson) who enlisted in the civil war as well and was born in Athens County as well as Seneca was but enlisting in Perry County, just like Seneca was. Here is George's information: *** Robertson, George H.[ Robinson ] Born : About 1842 in Ohio Burial : Unknown George H. Robertson, a farmer from DuQuoin, Perry Co., IL stood 5' 7" tall with brown/black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. He was born in Athens County, Ohio. Served during the Civil War with the Union Army, with Co. I, 6th Illinois Cavalry Enlisted on November 5, 1861 in DuQuoin, Perry Co., IL Mustered in as a Private on November 19, 1861 Reenlisted on March 10, 1864 in Germantown, Tennessee. Mustered in on March 30, 1864 in Memphis, Tennessee. Promoted to Saddler Mustered out on November 5, 1865 in Selma, Alabama. *** Now it gets a bit more interesting, I do know of a George Robinson living with his mother Elizabeth in the 1850 census of Perry County, IL however my notes say "*Elizabeth Robinson was 42, on page 87, she was born in New York? with a Son George Robinson who was 9 and born in Illinois." So if this is the same George, then he could have been born in either location and one source is wrong (which wouldn't surprise me). At any rate, I'm desperately trying to learn who Rose's parents were. It seems likely that this Elizabeth may have been her mother, but I have no solid proof. Also when I look in Athens County, OH, I find a couple of marriages preceding Isaac's birth, but the only 2 that seem likely don't appear to pan out (John C. Robinson married Eliza Gardner in 1826, and at first this seemed likely until I saw a post which listed their seven children which do not match to the above[the list was given as Margaret, Polly, Francis C., Sarah F., James L., Delilah Jane, and Lewis]; and William Robinson married Mary Robinson in 1829 which I find evidence of a William Robinson hanging around Athens County for years to come which would conflict with his children being in Illinois I would suspect). So I'm beginning to feel that the parents were possibly married elsewhere and came to Athens county. I have yet to search the 1830 census, which I hope to do soon, but wanted to get this out there. At any rate, if any of these names, etc ... match up to anyone's research, I'd really appreciate comparing notes. I have pretty much all of Rose's descendants.
