I have been taking a closer look at the Robinson Families in Harrison County, because I have a Rebecca Robinson b. ca 1795 married John Wolf 1813 Harrison County. I was trying to find a link to your Robinson Line. Death Record of Rebecca states her father was Benjamin Robinson and mother with initial M. Besides Benjamine b. 1798, son of Francis and Mary Terrell, there was another Benjamin in Harrison County in early 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840 Harrison County Ky Census. This Benjamin is most likely my ancestor, but I have no documentation at this time to prove it or what family line he is from. I have found quite a lot of material about them on the web and trying to sort it all out. After looking at the 1810 Harrison County Census, there was a Benjamin Robertson/Robinson b between 1766-1784 with 4 sons and 4 daughter. This could be a variation spelling of Robinson, and it could possible be Francis Brother Benjamin. Birth dates of children would be in the range of children of Benjamin and Catherine Parker. There is another Benjn Robinson in neighboring Scott County Kentucky in 1810 Scott Co. Ky. census. His houshold consisted of w males under 10 b 1800-1810, 1 male b. between 1766-1784, on female under 10 born 1800-1810 and one female b. 1766-1784. This couple was most likely would e closer to the age of being born in 1784 with children in household under 10. No one can know for certain, because they could always be grandchildren. I will post if I find any new info. Paula Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I think I mentioned earlier that Francis Robinson had a brother named Benjamin. According to the DAR Genealogical Research System database, Benjamin Robinson who was the brother of Francis Robinson died in Virginia. So, I think it unlikely that the other Benjamin Robinson who appears in the census record that you mentioned was the brother of Francis and is still another person with the name Benjamin Robinson. By the early 1800s the Robinson family who were descendants of Christopher Robinson at Urbanna was quite large. Perhaps your Benjamin was a cousin or uncle (just speculating). Below is a snip from the DAR online database of DAR applications: The Said Benjamin Robinson was the child of William Robinson born on 25 - Mar - 1709 at Middlesex Co VA died at Spotsylvania Co VA on 5 - May - 1792 and his ( 2nd ) wife Agnes Smith born on - - at _______________ died at Spotsylvania Co VA on (p) 9 - Dec - 1795 married on 27 - Jan - 1757 married at Spotsylvania Co VA The application also gave the following about Benjamin Robinson: Born c1762 Died 2 January 1826 at Spotsylvania County, VA. He was married to Catherine Parker. I've been doing a lot of work with my Thompson and Robinson ancestors in that area too. Specifically, I have an application out now for membership to the SAR under John Barnes of Harrison County, KY. I had perfect civil documents all the way back except for one generation which I referenced someones DAR application that itself referenced a civil document that I have not had the opportunity of obtaining for my own records. I have equally good documents to submit a supplemental application to certify my lineage from Francis Robinson and his father William Robinson. The relationship there is Napoleon Thompson who married Sarah Elizabeth Barnes. Napoleon and Sarah were each grandchildren of Revolutionary War soldiers. Napoleon's grandfather being Francis Robinson and Sarah's grandfather was John Barnes. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Another, also in Anson, April 1774. Another in 1778. In 1782 they are listed together on a tax list in Montgomery Co., NC. Luke is listed as an invalid. I actually narrowed down the dates of marr. between Luke and Obedience to be between 25 July 1784 and the Mar 1785 date, although I can't lay my hands on the proof for the 1784 date right now. I believe it was a deed Obedience signed still as Adams. First we see Luke and Obedience married is 28 Mar 1785. I do have land being transferred to John and wife Lidy. I also have a deceased John Robinson, all of these clustered around Cheek's Creek and Luke Robinson. Just a speculation - perhaps the John m. Lydia Brinn we all know and love is Luke's brother? and the John who died was his son? I always thought it was the other way around. A little while back I found reference to Benjamin and Caltha's burial location. At the Find A Grave web site, there was already existing the record of the Robinson Cemetery but no one had created a memorial for Benjamin and Caltha. I used the reference from the book, Grant County Cemeteries, Volume II, Virgil Chandler Sr., (Name: Grant County Historical Society; Location: Mason, Kentucky; Date: 1987;), and created the memorials and Rhonda Moore has uploaded images of their cemetery markers (thanks to Rhonda). Benjamin's memorial is linked to his wife's: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=74854690 I suspect that the other Benjamin Robinson that you see on census records was another relative of the Robinson family but it could be another unrelated person - So much to research. I have spent half the day going over census records in Harrison County Ky. As early as 1820 there are two Benjamin Robinsons listed in Harrison County. Ancestry only lists one Benjamin Robinson in Harrison, but I found an additional Benjamin b. between 1775-1794 in Marysville Harrison Co., Ky on Heritage Quest census. Since a Benjamin Robinson is a proven son of Francis b 1765, I need to be concentrating the other Benjamin. When I follow them through the 1830 and 1840 they are both still in Harrison Co., Ky. The 1850 reveals that a Benjamin and Caltha are present in Harrison Co., Ky., and I am assuming this is the Benjamin son of Francis. Is that right? I am still working on the census and plan to study the 1850 census a little more as well as some of the neighbors of both Benjamins. My Rebecca Robinson b. ca 1795 married in 1813 to John Wolf. John Wolf is in Harrison Co. census next to Benjamin Robinson on the South Side of Licking River, Harrison Ky, which I believe Benjamin son of Francis was living. This other Benjamin is born between 1775-1794 and living in Marysville 4 sons born between 1810-1820. There were! no daughters listed, but my Rebecca would have been gone in 1820 since she married John Wolf in 1813. At this point, I am going to have to prove Benjamin with a wife with initial M, as parents of Rebecca. Thanks again. What I believe has happened here is that the recorder of the record was probably re-copying an older record and got the lines all messed up. The marriage record of Thomas Thompson and Frances Robinson states the Father of Frances Robinson as Francis Robinson (this is just a book transcript). Marriages of Orange County, Virginia, 1747-1810 , Knorr, Catherine Lindsay, (Knorr, Catherine Lindsay), 0-89308-252-x., 89. Thomas Thompson & Frances Robinson, d/o Francis Robinson who consents. 7 Nov. 1809. Surety: Reubin Terrell. Witness: William Terrell. Married 9 Nov. by Rev. Jeremiah Chandler. P. 76. The page number at the end of the citation is a reference to the author's original source. Additional Thompson marriages are listed in this book but relationships, if any, are unclear. That book transcript gives a second reference to the father of Frances Robinson. The Last Will and Testament of Francis Robinson names her again with her married name of Thompson. Without having researched too deeply into Benjamin Robinson, I suspect that this is the brother of Francis Robinson, that is, another son of William Robinson and Agnes Smith-Robinson. I don't have a lot of information about Benjamin as yet so take what I've said with a grain of salt. Back to that 1859 death record in Harrison County, KY. Just go down that list and look at the last names of the MALE children and compare to the last name of the parents on the right-hand register page and you'll see just how badly it is messed up. I know you've already done this; I'm addressing others who also get confused when they see it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: DavidSchimka Surnames: Robinson Thompson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.robinson/8791.2.1.1.1.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The earliest Thompson individual that I have been able to verify in my ancestry is Thomas T Thompson. A record of his marriage exists but what I have is a transcription from a book as follows: Marriages of Orange County, Virginia, 1747-1810 , Knorr, Catherine Lindsay, (Knorr, Catherine Lindsay), 0-89308-252-x., 89. Thomas Thompson & Frances Robinson, d/o Francis Robinson who consents. 7 Nov. 1809. Surety: Reubin Terrell. Witness: William Terrell. Married 9 Nov. by Rev. Jeremiah Chandler. P. 76. The page number at the end of the citation is a reference to the author's original source (that source is not given in the book). Additional Thompson marriages are listed in this book but relationships, if any, to Thomas Thompson are thus far unclear. At the time of this post, the other Thompson marriages are listed in the notes section of Thomas Thompson's individual page on my personal web site: http://tree.schimka.com/getperson.php?personID=I774&tree=schimka#cite1 According to research by members of DAR, Thomas was born in Prince William County, VA. As you can see from the book citation above, he was married in Orange County, VA. Between the Revolutionary War pension file of Francis Robinson and the Stringtown History, the families of Francis Robinson and his daughter, Frances Robinson, and son-in-law, Thomas T Thompson, can be traced from Virginia to Harrison County, KY. In 1810 Franics Robinson was living in Fairfax County, VA. They moved first to Boone County, KY in 1817 and then in November of 1818 they moved to Harrison County, KY. To make a long story even longer, I suppose it is possible that George Thompson and Thomas Thompson were related somehow. I haven't been able to locate, with confidence any brothers or sisters of Thomas or reference to his parents so I don't have much to go on. Thomas did name one of his sons George. Thomas' birth in 1787 opens the possibility of your "George Thompson" ancestor to be a father and maybe even a much older brother. I can't help but notice how far Pittsylvania and Halifax Counties are from Orange, Spottsylvania, Stafford and Prince William counties though. Do you know anything of the parentage of the George Thompson you have in your ancestry? Did George have parents who lived closer to the Spottsylvania County area? One potenial clue that some researchers may want to look into is the Reverend Jeremiah Chandler. He was born in Caroline County, VA in 1749. He later moved to Orange County, VA and was the minster for the North Pamunky Church and simultaneously was minister for the Piney Branch Church in Spotsylvania County, VA. Jeremiah Chandler was the minister of both churches for about forty years. If church documents exist and have been microfilmed or are otherwise available then there is likely to be a wealth of information about the Robinson and Thompson families in the records of the churches of Jeremiah Chandler. My line begins with Rebecca Robinson b. ca 1795 who married John Newton Wolf in Harrison County, Ky in 1813. When I found her death record on Ancestry it showed her with a Father Benjamin and Mother M. Robinson. I have found many trees of the Francis Robinson b. 1765 married to Mary Emily Ann Terrell in Orange Co., Va. and I know this line is well documented. I have a copy of Francis's will dated 1840. This is where I have a problem. When I took a closer look at the copy of Rebecca's death Record (recorded as Rebeca Wolf died 1859, I found a Frances Thompson located right above Rebecca's record and also dying in 1859. When I check every person on the death record and followed their information listed on the record across the page, the line became distorted and it looks like the father of Rebecca should have been Francis and M. and Frances Thompson's father should be Benjamin. I know that Frances and Mary Terrell show a Frances Thompson who married Thomas T. Thompson! and came with the Robinson family to Harrison Co. Ky, but is that enough proof that she was the daughter of Frances and Mary? This benjamin Robinson listed as a father to Frances had a wife with the initials of M. The recorder of this death record made some mistakes, but with this additional info, I would like someone input. Who is this Benjamin Robinson and M. Robinson? I know Frances and Mary had a son Benjamin b. 1798-1874. When you get back to the Father of Francis, which many trees show William b. 1709 and beyond, I am sure there are many Benjamins that could fit for Rebecca or Francis father. There were Benjamins in Harrison County as early as 1810. On the 1800 Harrison census I show 2 males under b. 1800-1810, 2 males b 1785-1794, 1 male 1766-1784, 2 females 1800-1810, 2 females 1785-1794 and 1 female 1865 or older. I am wondering who this Benjamin could be. I have seen a Benjamin b. 1752 Spotsylvania Va and dying in 1825 who may be a brothe to Francis b. 1765, married to Catherine Parker. Does anyone have any more info that could help in solving my dilema? Thanks for any help. Paula Wright Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I see you are also researching the Thompson family. If you happen to be a descendant of Napoleon Bonaparte Thompson and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Barnes then you will also be a descendant of John Barnes (Sarah Elizabeth's grandfather) who was a Revolutionary War soldier in the Continental Army and was at many famous Revolutionary War battles including Trenton with Washington's troops and he was at Valley Forge for the winter of 1777-1778. John Barnes was in the Infantry and re-enlisted with the 3rd Continental Light Dragoons. Author: melmslie_1 Surnames: Robinson Agnew Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.robinson/10250/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm looking for information on my great-great-grandmother, Dora Robinson, born someplace in Quebec in 1852. I know she married Samuel Alexander Agnew, a merchant, probably between 1866 and 1872, had two children (Lily Jane and Dora Gertrude), and died in Montreal in 1906. But I was hoping to find out who her parents were, where they came from, where she was born, et cetera. Thanks in advance.
