Mr. Robinson, affectionately known as "Dr. J & R," was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Charlotte, North Carolina, a son of George and Carrie Robinson. He was owner/operator of "Dr. J & R. Tire Service." James had a passion for servicing tires. His successful business ran a AAA towing service as well as towing trucks. He also did off the road tire service for large major companies. In the late 50s and 60s, James was an advocate for providing a place for youth in Shenango Valley, along with Bobby Hammond, holding "record hops" at the Rumpus Room. He also traveled to Lawrence and Mahoning Counties doing activities for youth at the Goldie Roy Arena. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He leaves to cherish his memory, three children, Deanna (George) Creamer-Smith of Brookfield, Katrina Davis and Michelle Drummond, both of Youngstown; two sisters, Ann Saunders and Wendy Hughes, both of Youngstown; seven grandchildren, including Kevin (Tasha) Robinson of Youngstown, whom he reared; 12 great-grandchildren; a niece and nephew, Kim (Eric) Jackson and Joseph (LaToya) Saunders Jr.; and a host of family and friends. GK Briefly, think Leggett and Obedience may have been change of life babies for Christian and she died after they were born (they may have been twins - supposition, but they were close. When Obedience's husband died, Leggett took over care of her children. In any case, suspect Luke named them after Obedience because she stepped up to raise them. (Makes a good story, anyhow, and fits the facts well). ;-) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: hargerlm Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.robinson/10251.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: to the best of my ability & searching, My Robinson line starts with John Robinson who arrived in Plymouth Mass. in 1631 on the ship "Lyon". He settled in Exeter, Rockingham, New Hampshire. John & one of his son's were killed by Indians during the Indian wars. This time period is explained really well in Nathaniel Philbrick's book, "The Mayflower". I'm going to jump down to Nathaniel Robinson 1720-1777. He married Lydia Wadleigh & they had 7 children. He was born in Exeter, Rockingham, NH & moved to Merideth, Strafford, NH. His 4th child was Gideon Robinson (Sr.) (1755-1722). Gideon Sr. married Hannah Mead & they had 9 children that I know of. Hannah's father was William Mead, he served in the Revolutionary war along with Gideon Sr & another friend, Thomas Sinclair. These 3 families stick close together from this time forward & marry back & forth. Gideon & Hannah moved to Freedom, Waldo Maine when it is still named Smithton. On Oct 31 1811 the first recorded town meeting was held at Gideon Robinson's home & the name was changed to Beaverhill. In 1813 (after the was of 1812) Beaverhill's name was changed to Freedom. In 1820, Maine became a state, before that, it was part of the Common Wealth of Massachusetts. Gideon & Hannah moved to Beaverhill shortly after 1800 as far as I can tell. Gideon died in Freedom 21 Aug 1822. Gideon & Hannah's last child was Gideon (Jr., 1799-1872). Gideon Robinson Jr married Anna Fuller on 29 Nov 1821 in Freedom, Waldo Me. Their first 3 children were born in Freedom from 1824 to 1828. their 4th child was born in 1833 in Dover, Piscataquis, Maine. They had 6 children that I know of. Benjamin F Robinson was their first child 1824-1854. Benjamin was my gg grandfather. In my research it looks like my family was in Freedom Me from early 1800's & then moved up to Dover Me by 1830. Some came a lit! tle later to Dover. This includes the Robinson's, Fuller's & Sinclair Families. The Dorr (Door, Doore) family also gets mixed in. These families moved to Midland County between 1870 & the mid 1880's. I checked the 1850 US Census for Freedom, Me the other night & I could not find even one Robinson still living in Freedom. But this doesn't mean that Delwin & his father, James aren't related. I can't find James or Delwin before or after the 1880 census, but that would fit if he was orphaned. I hope we can figure out were they might fit in. I worked on my tree in "Family Tree Maker" tonight but I can't remember how to select the Robinson Part of my tree & send it as a Ged.com to you. I'll keep searching "Help" to see if I can figure it out. Because then you could see all the children of Nathaniel>Gideon>Gideon>Benjamin>William Henry>Ethel. Ethel was my Grandmother. She was born in 1886 in Midland Co, MI. Her 2 older brothers were born in Dover Me. My email address is: hargerlm@yahoo.com if you would like to email me directly. I have a land transaction for Luke and Christian in 1778, but not earlier. I do not have that 1782 documentation, either, that is good work! This whole early line is quite confusing. Whats with Leggett Robinson? Son of ? Obedience and Luke? Yet he was born in 1779? Was he son of William Adams and just took Luke's last name after his widowed mom married the widowed Luke Robinson? OR, were the two families so close that in 1779 Christian and Luke named their son Leggett after their close friends the Leggetts? Luke Robinson family was in 1790 census in North Carolina with 3 boys under age of 16, six girls and 16 slaves. If this is correct, then the boys could be Leggett & Thomas & who else? Samuel? (Sam says born in SC, but maybe not? Obedience's boys would really be too old to count as under 16.) Girls would be Christian, Obedience sr & jr,Sally and Mary, and that leaves one empty, maybe Divinity Adams, or some unnamed child who did not live to be acknowledged in later wills. Was the daughter of Luke, Christian jr named by/for her mother Christian, or was she named by her mother Obedience in honor of Luke's 1st wife and family friend Christian Sr? If Luke was an invalid in 1782 did he get better, or is this somehow a different Luke mentioned? I know one problem is that this is the beginning of the use of middle names and honorary names. They may have named someone Luke Jonathon, and "called " him Jonathon casually. And then named his son or another brother Jonathon James and called him Jonathon, or J, or Jon and viola- added confusion. I think we need a couple of big white boards, tables, and coffee, and we need to go over all of this info we share and ideas we have as a small group or Robinson researchers! Wish we lived closer... I would love any copies of actual docs you can get your hands on. I will beg lad to send you whatever docs or notes I have that might be useful. Email me... Ug and Gr. All help appreciated. Philippa, In your book, is there a George Robinson, b. abt 1802 in Virginia (or possibly Ireland, according to his children). My earliest document on him is the 1850 census. His first child was born 1844 in Missouri, his wife, Nancy Dixon, was born abt 1822 in Ohio. Because of the age difference between George and Nancy I suspect Nancy may have been his second wife. I am also looking for a William Isaac Robinson, b . abt 1858/1859 in Missouri, Texas or Arkansas. We DO know he married Melvina but her maiden name is either Robertson or King. I've been told William's parents are Isaac Robinson and Mary Gibson, both b. in AR. I have been searching census records like crazy but this family is hard to find. But maybe Isaac and Mary Gibson Robinson show up in your book. Any of these names in your book? I have not posted in some time, but I am still looking for a family for my 2G-grandmother. She was born March 23, 1835. All census records indicate that she was born in Mississippi. Both parents were born in North Carolina. They apparently migrated to Mississippi at an early date in the westward movement. She is first found living in Pickens County, Alabama in 1860. She is already married to my 2G-grandfather and they have three small children. Based on their ages, I am guessing that the marriage was about 1853. A marriage record has not been located in either MS or AL. I have found three young women named Elizabeth Robinson in the correct age range (in 1850), but deeper research has ruled them out. Does anyone have a Robinson line that includes a daughter named Elizabeth (Lizzie) in Mississippi or Alabama 1835 - 1850? Suggestions?
